BBC confirms return of iconic children’s show after almost 20 years
As a gamer who grew up in the early 2000s, hearing about the return of Balamory feels like a nostalgic punch to the heart, but this time it’s coming straight for my wallet! I remember staying up late on school nights, glued to our small black-and-white TV, laughing at the vibrant characters and their quirky adventures in that magical Scottish village. Balamory was more than just a children’s show; it was a part of my childhood that I cherished deeply.
The BBC has announced the return of iconic children’s show Balamory.
The children’s TV series CBeebies last went off air back in 2005, but fans will be delighted to know that they can revisit the fictitious Scottish village once again in 2026, with a total of two seasons planned.
For the moment, specifics are being kept secret, but the BBC is showing interest in concepts proposed by producers that feature some familiar characters along with an array of fresh faces, which preschoolers can become acquainted with.
The initial series revolved around a preschool and its teacher, Miss Hoolie. Each episode centered around a specific character’s dilemma, followed by a trip to one of the island’s inhabitants to find a solution for the problem.
This production featured actors such as Miles Jupp, Julie Wilson Nimmo, Buki Akib, Kasia Haddad, Juliet Cadzow, Andrew Agnew, Rodd Christensen, Mary Riggans, and Kim Tserkezie. However, it remains undetermined which of them will reappear.
Kate Morton, the head of commissioning at BBC Children’s and Education (0-6), announced that a fresh generation can look forward to experiencing ‘Balamory’, as we reunite families with this exciting update on CBeebies,” says the statement.
Parents who cherished this show as children will find it delightful to share its vibrant universe filled with familiar and fresh characters with their kids now.
As an ardent enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming seasons might just be filmed in the enchanting locations of Tobermory, where it all began, or the picturesque Rothesay. Each season promises a captivating 10 episodes for us fans to savor!
Upon hearing the announcement of a Balamory comeback, Nimmo expressed (in Daily Record): “This news about Balamory returning is absolutely insane and fantastic! In my opinion, it surpasses even the Oasis reunion in excitement. Everyone I know adores the show and has been longing for its return.
Balamory will return on CBeebies in 2026.
