Kate Garraway shares “emotional moment” with daughter Darcey

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual universes, I can say that moving my child to college is a real-life quest that rivals any epic adventure I’ve encountered in-game. The thrill of stacking cardboard boxes precariously high, the tension of fitting them into the car, and the triumphant relief when it all finally fits – it’s an adrenaline rush like no other.

Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has shared an “emotional moment” with her daughter Darcey.

On Monday (September 16), I hopped onto Instagram to cheer on my girl Darcey as she embarked on her college journey. I shared a heartwarming video of myself trying to cram those giant cardboard boxes into the car – it wasn’t easy, but it was all worth it to see her soaring!

In the video, Kate expressed her concern that it might not fit and added that it was quite large, almost too big. Since there are only two of them, she plans to try fitting it in the backseat.

While stuffing a pair of golden shoes into the car, Kate admitted that Darcey’s disorganized side has become apparent, stating: “She believes she’s so unique compared to me, but in terms of overall clutter and confusion, it turns out we’re quite similar.

“Just as quickly as can be, the little helpless infant we welcomed home from the hospital 18 years ago is now off to university!

On the same note as countless other parents during the weekend, I found myself engaging in the classic #student Jenga challenge, attempting to squeeze everything into the car. Boy, am I grateful for the spacious trunk of my cherished Volvo, Victor!

This moment carries a deep emotional resonance on multiple fronts, and it’s surprisingly peaceful here. Yet, Darcey, our hearts swell with pride as you embark on a fresh beginning in your life. We feel confident that your father is right there with you every step of the way.

Previous week, Kate garnered a National Television Award in the Best Authored Documentary section, recognizing her work on Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story. This moving documentary detailed the challenging final year of her spouse Derek Draper’s fight against coronavirus.

During the initial phase of the pandemic, Derek became infected with COVID-19 and ended up staying for an extended duration in the intensive care unit. Upon his return home, he needed constant attention around the clock. Unfortunately, he passed away in January of this year.

Good Morning Britain airs live from 6am weekdays on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
