Controversial Brit rocker confirms his famed band will be performing in Australia for the first time in seven years... but not all fans are impressed

As I delve into the captivating tale of Pete Doherty, a British rockstar who has seen both the pinnacle of success and the depths of despair, I am struck by his resilience and indomitable spirit. His life story is a poignant reminder that even in the face of adversity, one can rise again, phoenix-like from the ashes.

As a die-hard fan bursting with excitement, hearing that Pete Doherty and his legendary band, The Libertines, are setting foot in Australia is nothing short of music heaven! But, as the news spread, I couldn’t help but notice some fellow fans expressing disappointment.

In a declaration made recently, the 45-year-old vocalist confirmed that the London-based group will be gracing Australian soil once more in April 2025, performing an exceptional series of three unique concerts.

For the first time in seven years, The Libertines are set to perform on Australian soil, which is their second tour in the region. However, some enthusiastic fans were displeased by this news.

Australians residing on the Western coast felt heartbroken when they discovered that the band will perform in just three significant cities along the Eastern coast: Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, leaving them out of the tour itinerary.

First up, The Libertines are set to perform at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on the 12th of April. After that, they’ll move on to The Forum in Melbourne on the 17th of April, and then they’ll head to Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane also on the 17th.

A large number of enthusiasts swiftly used Instagram to express their dismay that the highly acclaimed band won’t be stopping by Adelaide, Western Australia, or New Zealand on their tour.

A dissatisfied spectator once commented, “Did you know there’s a West Coast in Australia?” While another fan pleaded, “Come to Adelaide, come to Adelaide, come to Adelaide.

A third wrote: ‘No Perth show, gutted,’ and a fourth shared: ‘Come on guys add a Perth slot in.’

One person remarked, “Why not visit us in New Zealand,” while another suggested, “A concert in Adelaide would have been wonderful.

Meanwhile, other enthusiasts echoed their joy about the series of performances, with one exclaiming: “Oh, how delightful! This brings me such happiness again at last!

Another wrote: “What a marvelous sight! Best news of the whole year! I never imagined this day would come. Thank you!

A third said: ‘I’m going to have a nervous breakdown,’ and another added: ‘Oh my god YAY. This is the best news since the last Aus tour announcement.’

Previously, other international celebrities have faced criticism for their Australian tour stops, similar to the current situation with Dua Lipa, who is facing backlash for not including Brisbane and Perth in her 2025 tour itinerary.

In 2018, the British band The Libertines, consisting of members Pete, Carl Barat, John Hassall, and Gary Powell, made their initial visit to Australia. This marked the first time they set foot in our land.

At the Sydney City Limits festival, the rock band also took the stage for headline performances in Brisbane and Melbourne.

In the year 1997, Pete and Carl established The Libertines in the bustling city of London. However, it took them until 2002 to gain broad recognition, which was largely due to the launch of their first album, “Up the Bracket.

In the midst of a high-profile struggle against substance abuse issues involving drugs and alcohol, as well as internal conflicts among its members, Pete decided to leave the band in 2004. However, they reunited in 2010 and went on to perform as headliners at the Reading and Leeds Festivals that same year.

Back in April 2014, the band known as The Libertines declared they were reuniting to perform a concert at Hyde Park, London.

Earlier this year, they unveiled their fourth album titled “All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade,” which marked their second UK chart-topper as a garage rock band.

In the 2000s, when Pete was particularly popular, he made headlines across the country for dating the renowned supermodel, Kate Moss.

They encountered each other at Kate’s 31st birthday party in January 2005, and not long after, he expressed that he had truly discovered love.

In simpler terms, their stormy relationship took a pause because Pete wasn’t able to finish his treatment at a rehab center in Arizona. At that moment, Kate mentioned she was dealing with several private matters that required her attention.

In 2005, he not only sketched a picture of himself and Kate using crayons and his own blood, but Pete is also known for writing “I love Kate forever” on the window of his Jaguar after exiting the courthouse following a drug-related case.

However, the couple then split for good in 2007 following a series of blazing rows.

Previously, Pete indicated that there wasn’t a single defining moment that led to their separation; instead, he explained that their lives ultimately didn’t align well together in the end.

During the peak of his stardom, he found himself repeatedly embroiled in legal issues and was incarcerated for six months due to drug possession charges involving cocaine.

Instead, we find that Pete has been living a sober life since last December 2019, now happily established alongside his spouse Katia and their one-year-old child, Billie-Mae, in the northern region of France.

In a conversation with Sunday Times Home, Pete admitted that his struggle with addiction led him to make less-than-optimal financial decisions. Now, he finds himself dealing with the consequences.

He said: ‘Moving to rural Normandy probably saved my life.

Initially, upon relocating to France, I resided in towns such as Marseilles, Paris, Lille, and Perpignan. However, these urban areas made it overly convenient for the dealers to track me down.

Despite achieving top-charting albums and earning a substantial income, I never set aside funds for savings or investments.

As my income increased, so did my expenses. Regrettably, I’m currently dealing with old tax bills from a decade ago, which I’m still struggling to settle.

Hey there! I’ve been really immersed in this subject, and let me tell you something from personal experience – when I was deep in the grips of my obsession, I wasn’t exactly making the wisest decisions.

Pete has since made an impressive comeback, and last year revealed he is once again a millionaire.
