Olivia Munn shares update on her breast cancer battle more than a year after diagnosis
As a fan who has been following Olivia Munn’s career for years, it’s heartwarming and inspiring to see her share her personal battle with breast cancer. Her courage and resilience are truly commendable, and I can’t help but admire her strength. It’s not every day that we get to witness such a powerful example of perseverance and determination.
On a couple of Instagram posts this week, I, a devoted admirer, shared an update about my ongoing journey with breast cancer. Olivia Munn, you’re truly inspiring!
44-year-old actress, first diagnosed with breast cancer back in April 2023, shared a set of videos on her social media account this past Wednesday, addressing over 3 million followers and sparking conversations about the critical issue she faced.
The Oklahoma City native captioned the image, ‘My breast cancer timeline. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this and I’ve wanted to make this video for those asking for a while but I’ve been filming, finishing filming, running after a toddler and starting a new medication.

Munn, who portrayed Sloan Sabbith on HBO’s The Newsroom between 2012-2014, expressed her desire to educate, support, and motivate those currently experiencing or who have experienced similar situations.
‘Maybe feel a little comforted and knowing that I’ve gone down the same path and I’m doing OK.’
In the post she shared, the actress from X-Men: Apocalypse included a chronological illustration detailing her health experience, complete with dates and treatment methods. There were additional graphic elements along the edges of the screen for clarity.
In the period leading up to his official diagnosis, Munn’s medical records showed:
In March and April of 2023, Munn had MRI scans, ultrasounds, and biopsies performed. It was during the month of April in 2023 that she received a double (bilateral) breast cancer diagnosis.
In May 2023, Munn’s medical journey progressed with a procedure called a ‘delay in nipple reconstruction, removal of lymph nodes, and double mastectomy’. Later in June 2023, she underwent an ‘egg retrieval treatment’.
In September 2023, her schedule showed a breast reconstruction surgery, followed by starting a Lupron treatment regime in November.
In April of 2024, as per the schedule, Munn had a procedure called a partial hysterectomy/oophorectomy performed on her. Come August, she started following an Arimidex treatment plan.
Munn, mom to two-year-old Malcolm alongside her husband John Mulaney (age 42), shared with her audience that she will persist in creating videos and addressing as many questions as possible on this specific topic.
She also mentioned that she feels grateful for the backing she’s gotten from the community during her struggle with her health issues.
She expressed her gratitude to everyone who has messaged her or approached her while she was out shopping: “It truly means a lot to me, and the experience has been incredibly therapeutic. So, thank you very much.”
On Wednesday’s post, Munn admitted that she had noticed the comments she’d received and intended to respond when time permitted.
