As a seasoned cinephile who’s seen more than my fair share of password-related struggles, I can’t help but feel a strange sense of camaraderie with Aubrey Plaza. Here’s an actress who has garnered critical acclaim and Emmy nominations for her performances, yet finds herself locked out of her own work due to the elusive password conundrum. It’s almost poetic in its absurdity, isn’t it?

Stars, they’re just like us (sort of).

Aubrey Plaza recently admitted in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on a Tuesday that she had forgotten the password to her Max account. Unlike many people, however, this simple oversight meant she hasn’t been able to watch her own Emmy-nominated performance – a fact that may stretch one’s belief! (Just like some captivating TV shows and films!)

Actress Alison Brie, known for her success on “Parks and Recreation,” gained significant recognition for her role as sharp-tongued lawyer Harper Spiller in the second season of Mike White’s “The White Lotus.” In its second run, this dark comedy series earned 23 Emmy nominations, among them Brie’s nod for best supporting actress in a drama. It ultimately triumphed in five categories.

But the 40-year-old actor dryly insists she has yet to find success streaming the season herself.

Initially, Plaza admitted she faced issues with her HBO Max account as she attempted to watch it. Specifically, she struggled with remembering the correct password. Typically, when she encounters such password problems, she tends to give up easily. Frankly, dealing with such challenges is something she finds difficult.

“I’d love a DVD,” she deadpanned, “but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”

In the previous year, Plaza shared with Vanity Fair an incident that occurred when she attempted to watch “Top Chef” on Bravo.

She was unable to determine the method to subscribe to Hulu+ Live. In despair, she admitted defeat as she felt incapable of doing so. To make matters worse, she often buys TV shows and movies from iTunes instead. Her husband frequently reminds her that she could watch those same programs for free on HBO Max.

As a film critic, I found myself questioning whether Aubrey Plaza could immerse herself fully into the role, even after smoothing over the technical hiccups. Could she manage to step back and watch her own performance without becoming an audience member within the movie itself?

She mentioned that if she’s not creating something herself, she usually doesn’t view it, as stated in the Scene Selection video series by Vanity Fair.

However, the lead character in “Emily the Criminal” need not attend her own performances to resonate with her character, Harper Spiller, as she can still forge a deep connection with them.

In 2022, Plaza shared with The Times that she found Harper highly empathetic. There are many aspects about her character that resonate strongly with her. What makes Harper interesting is that it’s clear from the beginning that she doesn’t truly belong in this wealthy, privileged world that she’s been introduced to, and yet, she serves as a gateway for us to explore and understand it better.
