Monsterverse Theory Suggests THAT Titan Is A Secret Godzilla Ally

Warning: Spoilers for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 10

As a lifelong monster movie fan, I’ve been paying close attention to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and it looks like they might have subtly brought in a potential ally for Godzilla! It could be someone from his past, or maybe someone who’ll team up with him down the line. Anyone who knows Godzilla knows he’s not always a lone wolf. In the classic Toho films, he’s actually fought with a bunch of other monsters over the years – Rodan, Mothra, Anguirus, King Caesar, Jet Jaguar, and even Gorosaurus have all been on his side at some point.

The Godzilla from the Monsterverse has mostly teamed up with just a few creatures. He and Mothra have a close, natural partnership, and they’ve fought together in both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Kong is another ally, though their teamwork isn’t always smooth. They’ve joined forces twice – once to defeat Mechagodzilla, and again to stop the Skar King, even after briefly fighting each other.

A new Godzilla and Kong movie, currently titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is planned, and it will likely feature SpaceGodzilla as the main enemy. Right now, there aren’t any signs that Godzilla will gain any new allies soon. However, the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters might have hinted at a potential ally from Godzilla’s past, and we could see them team up in the show’s third season.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters May Have Introduced A Second Rodan

The season finale of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ended with Kurt Russell’s character, Lee Shaw, traveling to Thailand. He was searching for a creature – and a mysterious energy point called an Axis Mundi rift – that Isabel Simmons and Kentaro Randa were also after. His pursuit led him to Rodan, a massive Titan, standing near a volcano. This was a surprising development, especially since Rodan hasn’t appeared in any of the Monsterverse films since 2019. The episode strongly suggests there are currently two Rodans living on Earth.

In the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the organization Monarch built Outpost 56 in Mexico in 1991 to watch Rodan, who was nesting in a volcano. They believed he was hibernating until the film’s villains used a special device in 2019 to wake him up. However, a scene in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters shows Rodan active and flying around Thailand in 2017 – which doesn’t fit with the established timeline.

This implies that there are currently two living Rodans within the Monsterverse. Interestingly, this idea aligns with the original 1956 Rodan film, which also featured two of the creatures, suggesting Monarch: Legacy of Monsters might be drawing from that source material. If so, this Rodan could have a backstory quite different from the one seen in King of the Monsters.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Rodan May Have Teamed Up With Godzilla Against Ghidorah

The possibility of another Rodan appearing could connect to a hidden detail from King of the Monsters. During a scene where the characters explored Godzilla’s underwater city, a painting showed Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan fighting alongside each other against King Ghidorah. This might have been a nod to the team-up seen in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, but it also suggests that this alliance has happened before within the Monsterverse’s established story.

If Rodan did appear, it wasn’t the one from King of the Monsters. Director Michael Dougherty has said that Rodan’s parents left his egg in the Isla de Mara volcano. The Rodan we see in the film is young and just leaving his nest for the first time.

It’s quite plausible to see Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan team up against Ghidorah. Godzilla and Ghidorah have been rivals for ages, and their past is complicated. Considering Rodan’s ancestor in King of the Monsters might have fought on the other side of a previous battle between Godzilla and Ghidorah, and that Rodan ultimately submitted to Godzilla, it’s easy to believe they could have been allies in a different scenario.

The Rodan depicted in the mural might be the one currently living inside the Thai volcano. This would give a good reason to introduce another Rodan; otherwise, it could feel unnecessary to bring in a second one that’s just like the Rodan from King of the Monsters. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could establish this new Rodan as unique by showing he’s an ancient Titan with a long and fascinating past.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Can Finally Deliver A Godzilla-Rodan Team-Up

As a huge Monsterverse fan, I’m really excited about the possibility of Godzilla and Rodan being old allies! It feels like this could set up something we’ve all been waiting for, and the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters series seems like the perfect place to finally make it happen. While King of the Monsters did a pretty good job of staying true to the original Toho films, it was a letdown that we didn’t get to see Godzilla and Rodan actually fight together as allies. Hopefully, that’s about to change!

While Rodan’s survival at the end of his last appearance hinted at a possible future conflict, Godzilla has starred in two more films without it happening. Now, with the Rodan storyline in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Monsterverse has a great chance to finally unite Godzilla and Rodan as allies. The show could reveal they fought together long ago, paving the way for a reunion where they trust each other to defeat a shared enemy.

Season 2 showed that the story can handle more than just two major monsters, so it’s possible another Titan will be the main villain instead of Rodan. If that happens, Godzilla might team up with Rodan, the famous Fire Demon. A Godzilla and Rodan alliance could lead to the most thrilling monster fight we’ve seen in the series so far.
