Emily in Paris season 4 episode 5 recap and ending explained

As a seasoned fan of Emily in Paris, I must say that the decision to split season 4 into two parts has proven to be a masterful move by Netflix. The midseason finale was chock-full of unexpected twists and turns, leaving me on the edge of my seat with anticipation for what’s to come.

When Netflix revealed that “Emily in Paris” season 4 was going to be divided into two parts, I shared the same level of intrigue as many other fans about how this division would unfold and if there’d be a significant cliffhanger in the midseason finale to keep discussions going during the hiatus. After watching the finale, I can confidently say that the show effectively utilized the split season format to its advantage.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Emily in Paris season 4 midseason finale!

The episode starts by showing Emily and Mindy tasting a fresh pastry from Gabriel’s bakery. Despite the troubles it appears to be causing him, he tolerates it as he aims for a Michelin Star. Suddenly, Lee, Mindy’s friend, shows up and joins them. She shares her ambition of starting a skincare line in Paris and hints to Emily that she needs a marketing company, so Emily sets up a meeting for her right away.

After Emily and Gabriel exit the restaurant, they run into Camille and Sofia who are in the process of moving into their fresh apartment. In the midst of this, Gabriel lends a hand with one of their boxes. As Camille attempts to return a ring she discovered during the move, Gabriel declines, stating it serves as a symbol of their newfound familial bond. This prompts a warm embrace between them, though Sofia’s expression suggests discomfort – a response that is well-earned given the uncertainty surrounding whether Emily and Gabriel have truly moved past one another as they claim.

At the flea market, Sofia and Camille start browsing. Immediately, Camille notices a rocking horse, but Sofia suggests they skip it because they should prioritize buying useful items for their apartment at this time. As they continue shopping, Sofia finds an easel she adores, causing Camille to express concern, thinking they were only planning on purchasing practical items. When Sofia explains that she’ll use the easel now as it serves a purpose, tension arises between them. Camille becomes upset, feeling like Sofia isn’t fully invested in their upcoming baby and criticizes recent jokes Sofia has made. Frustrated, Camille decides to buy the rocking horse on her own, causing a clear disagreement between the two. Without a doubt, there are signs of turmoil in their relationship.

At the workplace, Julien is back following his short-term assignment at JVMA and eager to jump back into tasks alongside Sylvie. Amidst all the hustle and bustle of recent events, Sylvie recognizes she neglected to book a reservation for Laurent’s birthday. In an attempt to rectify this, Sylvie asks Luc for assistance in securing a table. Luc’s girlfriend Marianne, with the intention of using the dinner as leverage for Luc’s salary increase, consents to help with the arrangement.

At their planned romantic birthday dinner, Sylvie and Laurent find that Luc and Marianne are already at the table, turning what was supposed to be a private event into a larger gathering. The evening proceeds less smoothly than anticipated, with Luc impulsively asking for a raise and Marianne, believing she could get the meal covered due to her connections, offering to pay. Things take an uncomfortable turn when a man accuses Marianne of being an imposter, revealing that she was let go a year prior for abusing dining privileges. This leaves Sylvie responsible for the bill, Luc without his requested raise, and the possibility of Gabriel’s Michelin Star being withheld.

One couple calls it quits

Following the day’s incidents, Sofia chooses to gather her things and informs Camille she’s departing for Athens. As Sofia clarifies, her visit to Paris was primarily to check on Camille and not to reside near her ex. She proposes that Camila could join her in Athens, but explains she won’t because she refuses to move further than two miles from Gabriel. She assures Camille she has a life in Athens and will be there when Camille is ready to wholeheartedly engage in their relationship. With this, Sofia bids farewell to Paris and leaves Camille, who weeps at the departure.

Recently separated from her ex, Camille positions the horse from the market in a room meant for a nursery. Spotting Emily and Gabriel locking lips outside their apartment, her expression reveals a story: it appears that Camille may not have moved on completely from Gabriel, or so it seems to us based on these events.

Emily in Paris season 4 episode 5 ending explained

In the concluding episode of season 4, part 1 of Emily in Paris, there are numerous startling disclosures that leave us bewildered.

Initially, it’s crucial that Luc confesses the truth to Emily: Marianne has been deceiving them by pretending to be a Michelin inspector, which means that Gabriel won’t be swiftly awarded his first Michelin star as previously thought, due to the unfortunate fact that her falsehoods have affected their situation.

1. Emily finds herself needing to share some difficult news with Gabriel, who appears deeply saddened but handles it better than she had expected. Meanwhile, with the Michelin Star temporarily out of reach, Gabriel dismisses his annoying pastry chef, Marianne, knowing that he no longer has to heed her advice and deal with her unpredictable behavior.

In a timely manner, Camille witnesses him and Emily reconciling, at which point he discloses that Marianne is a fake, implying he won’t receive his Michelin Star anymore. He subsequently reveals to Emily and Camille that the star isn’t necessary for him because he possesses everything he desires: an intelligent and attractive girlfriend, and a child on the horizon. However, there’s a complication with this last detail…

In an earlier scene of this episode, it’s revealed that Camille was never actually pregnant. The pregnancy test she took gave a false positive, and her period was delayed due to stress. She had planned to share this news with Gabriel, but after his joyful comments about becoming a father, she becomes silent, foreshadowing a significant plot development for the second half of the season.

It’ll be intriguing to watch if Camille can maintain her secret for a while and under what circumstances it might surface. We sense that when the truth is ultimately revealed, there will likely be quite a bit of drama ensuing!
