L.A. reveals some of its Olympics closing ceremony performers

As a lifelong resident of Los Angeles, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming Olympic Games in our city! The lineup of musical acts for the closing ceremony is absolutely stellar – Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, and H.E.R.? Wow, that’s a concert I wouldn’t want to miss! And let’s not forget about Tom Cruise doing his stunts – I can only imagine the adrenaline rush that will give me!

Notable musicians from Southern California, including Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Snoop Dogg, are scheduled to perform at the Olympic closing ceremony. This event aims to showcase Los Angeles as the upcoming host city for the Summer Games, introducing it to a global audience.

The organizers of the Los Angeles Olympics, known as LA28, have announced that H.E.R will be joining the lineup for the event. She is set to perform the U.S. national anthem live at the Stade de France in Paris, which is part of the formal ceremony marking the transition from Paris’ Olympic Games to those of Los Angeles.

LA28 hinted at more surprises without verifying the rumors about Tom Cruise’s participation in the event. Cruise is anticipated to appear in a sequence of thrilling stunts at Stade de France, as well as along the streets of Paris and in Los Angeles.

In a press statement, LA28’s president Casey Wasserman declared, “Today marks the most significant event in LA28’s history so far, as we receive the Olympic torch from Paris. We are ecstatic to showcase the finest aspects of Los Angeles, collaborating with local artists, and express our gratitude to Billie Eilish, H.E.R., Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Snoop Dogg for their joint effort in creating an extraordinary performance that will captivate a worldwide audience, offering a sneak peek of what we have planned for 2028.”

During the closing event of the Paris Olympics, LA28 will bask in approximately 15 minutes of attention. This will occur just prior to the mayors of the two cities exchanging the official Olympic flag.

Additionally showcased during the L.A. handover will be two-time Olympic skateboarding medalist Jagger Eaton, mountain bike champion Kate Courtney, and track and field athlete Michael Johnson who has earned a gold medal.

For the closing ceremony, Fulwell 73 Productions, known for their award-winning creativity, will be in charge under the leadership of Ben Winston – a multiple Emmy winner both as an executive producer and creator. This is referring to Los Angeles’ segment of the event.

In a press statement, Winston expressed that the LA28 handover will highlight the pulsating spirit of L.A., much like the Olympics serve as a global destination for dream-chasers. We aim to present an assortment of Los Angeles narratives, encompassing its inhabitants, artistic flair, music scene, sports events, and a touch of Hollywood enchantment, thereby inviting everyone worldwide to join us in the LA28 Games.

After the conclusion of the closing event, NBC and Peacock will present a special program titled “Countdown to LA28”. This show includes Venus Williams, a five-time Olympic medalist, along with extended musical performances, a sneak peek at the upcoming 2028 Games. Additionally, Olympic legends Carl Lewis and Sugar Ray Leonard, U.S. water polo Hall of Famer Brenda Villa, and Paralympic swimmer Rudy Garcia-Tolson (who has earned five medals) are also expected to appear on the show. The first broadcast will air at noon PDT, with a repeat showing at 7 p.m. PDT.
