Everything you need to know about the BBC’s new Death in Paradise spin-off
As a diehard fan of the “Death in Paradise” series, I am beyond excited about the upcoming spin-off, “Return to Paradise.” Having grown up on the beautiful beaches of Australia, the setting for this new addition to the franchise instantly resonated with me. The fact that it will be filmed in and around Sydney and the Illawarra coastal region only adds to my anticipation.
In the world of “Death in Paradise”, the storyline will venture beyond the Caribbean and Devon as the new spin-off series, titled “Return to Paradise”, is set to unfold.
1) The latest member of the DiP family is making its way to Australia, taking over from Beyond Paradise, which marked the beginning of the franchise’s first spin-off in 2023.
A new episode of “Death in Paradise” brings a fresh addition to its cast as the lead detective on the show. However, it remains to be seen which actor will take on this role for the upcoming installment, titled “Return to Paradise.” The premiere date for this latest series of murder investigations is yet to be announced.
Here’s everything we know about Return to Paradise.
Who has been cast in Return to Paradise?
Unlike “Beyond Paradise,” which brought back Kris Marshall as Humphrey and Sally Bretton as Martha for a spin-off, “Return to Paradise” introduces fresh faces to the audience.
Anna Samson from “Home and Away,” known for her recent role, will headline the new installment of the ‘Paraverse’ as DI Mackenzie Clarke.
Another “Home and Away” alum, Tai Hara, is set to make an appearance, portraying Mackenzie’s spurned ex-fiancee, Glenn.
Lloyd Griffith from “Ted Lasso” is set to join the Australian team with an unspecified position. Here are four actors who will round out the cast, but their character roles and details have not been announced yet:
Where is Return to Paradise filmed?
1) “Paradise Returned” takes place in the seaside village of Dolphin Cove, with filming occurring at multiple spots along the Sydney and Illawarra coastlines.
As a game enthusiast diving into the latest set of murder mysteries, I can’t wait to see how the stories will weave their tales around picturesque settings, just like how ‘Death in Paradise’ and ‘Beyond Paradise’ masterfully incorporated the Caribbean and Cornwall/Devon landscapes respectively.
In a recent announcement, Rachel Okine, the lead at ABC’s screen division, expressed excitement about teaming up with BBC Studios Production Australia and Red Planet Pictures. The goal is to infuse this popular series with an authentic Aussie spirit.
“Return to Paradise: Get ready for a clever, captivating, and enjoyable experience! Audiences young and old are welcome to join in the mystery-solving fun. With each twist and turn, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to a blissful summer retreat.”
When is Return to Paradise coming out on BBC?
I’m thrilled to share that “Return to Paradise,” the new spin-off of “Death in Paradise,” is set to premiere on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK, and on ABC and ABC iview in Australia, beginning in 2024.
As a passionate gamer, I’m excitedly anticipating the premiere of “Beyond Paradise” for the first time. The inaugural season promises to deliver an immersive experience with six captivating episodes in store. However, unfortunately, we haven’t been given a definitive release date to add to our calendars just yet.
Instead of coming after the “Death in Paradise” and “Beyond Paradise” Christmas specials in December, it’s more likely that the new show will air earlier, potentially in the fall season.
The filming concluded in July 2024, increasing the possibility of a fall release since post-production is expected to be minimal. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for an announcement; we’ll share it with you as soon as we receive any news.
What is Return to Paradise about?
As reported by BBC, the upcoming series “Return to Paradise” seamlessly merges the genetic code of the internationally acclaimed murder mystery show’s original formula, while offering a fresh, distinctly Australian perspective. This fusion is sure to delight fans, as they eagerly anticipate the blend of familiar elements and innovative twists.
1. For individuals seeking a deeper understanding of Mackenzie’s section in the ‘Paraverse,’ the spin-off summary goes like this: “Australian expatriate Mackenzie Clarke appears to be the shining star of London’s Metropolitan police force, known for her intuitive approach to solving crimes. She has earned a reputation for tackling even the most baffling cases.”
Instead of “However, she’s suddenly forced to up sticks and move back to her childhood home of Dolphin Cove, a beautiful, coastal paradise… and Mackenzie’s worst nightmare,” you could say:
1. The narrative proceeds: “Six years ago, Mack fled her small town under the first available pretext, swearing never to return. She left behind a host of incomplete matters and puzzling enigmas.” (This version maintains the original’s structure and meaning while using more common phrases for a natural flow.)
Upon her arrival back, she remained unimpressed with Dolphin Cove, and the locals felt similarly about her presence. In truth, most people hoped she wouldn’t stay around anymore, even Mackenzie herself seemed reluctant.
However, when a murder occurs in Dolphin Cove, Mack feels compelled to utilize her detective skills effectively. Despite her initial hesitations, she recognizes the need to seize this opportunity. This includes resolving outstanding issues with the man she jilted at the altar six years prior.
1. The upcoming film “Back to Eden” has yet to announce its launch date.
