Why Deadpool & Wolverine spoiled Dafne Keen cameo in final trailer

As a huge Marvel fan, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and disappointment regarding the recent revelations about “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The trailers for this much-anticipated movie have been filled with delightful surprises, but some of these cameos have been spoiled long before the film hit the cinemas.

The MCU production featuring Deadpool and Wolverine has gained recognition for its numerous cameos, but some major appearances were revealed ahead of its theater release.

In more simplified terms, the new Deadpool film brings back Laura, also known as X-23 and played by Dafne Keen, who was introduced as Wolverine’s daughter in Logan (2017). It appears that Keen’s desire to attend the New York City premiere may have led to her reappearance being revealed in the last Deadpool and Wolverine trailer.

“Dafne deeply desired to attend the film debut, but we explained, ‘Unfortunately, she can’t make it to the premiere as her presence might reveal the movie’s secrets since we haven’t screened it yet,'” Kevin Feige shared with Variety during the Deadpool & Wolverine NYC premiere.

X-23’s look serves as a compelling emotional center in the film, Feige explained further. Disney’s marketing team is adept at strategically revealing and concealing details at just the right moments.

Ultimately, Marvel decided to feature X-23 in one of their promotional trailers since, according to Feige, “she shined in the last trailer” and “this allowed Dafne to attend the film’s premiere.”

Shawn Levy, the director of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s movie, acknowledged to Digital Spy that Keen is just one of the numerous characters making a short appearance in the film. Regarding the film’s numerous leaks, Levy disclosed that shooting on location was a deliberate decision with the understanding that spoilers could potentially be revealed.

Instead of making the conventional decision to create a large-scale film primarily using soundstages, green screens, LEDs, volume work, and motion capture, we chose a different path from the beginning.

Deadpool & Wolverine is in UK cinemas now and released in US cinemas on July 26.
