Good news for fans of Fourth Wing! After three years of development, Amazon is officially moving forward with the TV series adaptation.
Prime Video has greenlit a series based on the popular book Fourth Wing. Michael B. Jordan announced the news at Amazon’s upfront presentation on Monday, where he also revealed his role as an executive producer. Joining him were fellow executive producer Lisa Joy, showrunner Meredith Averill, and the book’s author, Rebecca Yarros. Jordan’s Outlier Society is producing the series alongside Kilter Films (from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy) and Premeditated Productions.
Fourth Wing Will Become Amazon’s Next Big Fantasy Series
According to Averill, Rebecca Yarros’s books have quickly become a major success story of the 21st century, inspiring a remarkably dedicated fanbase. Fans aren’t just reading the books, they’re fully immersed in the world she’s created, and Fourth Wing delivers on all fronts. It’s packed with intense emotions, exciting power struggles, and a surprising amount of humor and warmth, all centered around a captivating romance.
Jordan explained that finding the perfect creative team was essential for this project. They’re working to create a visually stunning world and deliver a series that will truly satisfy the fans.
Yarros explained that these individuals truly grasp what a story means to its audience, and their enthusiasm for the book is why she has complete faith in their opinions.
Fourth Wing is the first book in a new fantasy romance series. It tells the story of Violet Sorrengail, a promising scholar who is unexpectedly forced to join the dangerous Rider’s Quadrant at Basgiath War College. There, students train to bond with dragons and become powerful warriors, but the process is incredibly risky, and many don’t survive. Violet must face extreme challenges to prove herself worthy and earn the dragons’ trust.
It’s Taken 3 Years for Fourth Wing to Be Greenlit
I’ve been following the development of this project for a while now, and it’s been a long road! It feels like forever ago that Amazon MGM Studios and Outlier Society first picked up the rights around the time the book came out. Things seemed to inch forward, and I was hopeful when Averill came on board last fall, but it’s only now that the series has finally been officially approved. It’s such a relief to see it escape ‘development hell‘ and actually move forward!
The novel series currently includes three books: Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm. Author Rebecca Yarros intends to write five books in total. The planned TV adaptation for Prime Video will likely follow a similar pattern to HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, with each book adapted into a single season.
A premiere date hasn’t been set for the Fourth Wing series on Prime Video.
