As a passionate fan, I can tell you that producing high-quality shows like “House of the Dragon” comes with a hefty price tag and requires a significant amount of time. With only a few weeks left until the conclusion of season 2, and unfortunately not expected to see season 3 until 2026, HBO doesn’t want to leave us feeling empty-handed when it comes to Westeros. To keep us engaged, they are creating an entirely new prequel series: “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” inspired by George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas.

In the timeframe between the “House of the Dragon” and “Game of Thrones” sagas, the tale of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” introduces us to Ser Duncan the Tall, a towering knight, and his small squire named Egg. They wander through the Seven Kingdoms, embarking on chivalric quests in a more tranquil narrative that is free of dragons and the Iron Throne.

HBO is filming the show even as we speak, and we already know a lot of the cast members, including:

  • Peter Claffey as Dunk
  • Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg
  • Finn Bennett as Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, a dramatic, half-mad Targaryen prince who makes trouble for Dunk early in his journey
  • Bertie Carvel as Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, Aerion’s uncle and a much more level-headed guy
  • Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Aerion’s father
  • Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, a puppeteer Dunk meets at a tourney in the Reach
  • Daniel Ings as Lyonel Baratheon, one of the participants in that tourney

In the initial season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” on television, Dunk and Egg make appearances in each new story, leading to potential changes in the cast if a second season ensues. However, major characters aren’t the only elements required for an engaging series. Sidekicks and minor roles are also essential. Based on reports from “Redanian Intelligence,” some new additions have been confirmed for the show:

  • Steven Calvert as a Stormland knight
  • Rowan Robinson as Rowan
  • Abigail O’Regan in an unknown role

The Stormlands represent the ancestral home of the Baratheon clan, implying that Calvert’s character may be joining Lyonel Baratheon for a tournament. Regarding “Rowan,” RI suggests it might be a disguise or alias, and we remain clueless about Abigail O’Regan’s character.
