As a long-time attendee and supporter of the Sundance Film Festival, I am excited and intrigued by the announcement of six finalist cities under consideration for hosting the festival beginning in 2027. Having experienced the magic of this event in its traditional home of Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, I understand the importance of finding a new location that not only secures a sustainable future but also builds upon the festival’s legacy while continuing to support the next generation of storytellers and highlight bold new works of art.

Six cities have been named as finalists by the Sundance Institute in their selection process for hosting the Sundance Film Festival starting from 2027.

In addition to the traditional locations of Park City and Salt Lake City in Utah, the following cities are being considered as possible hosts for the festival: Atlanta, Boulder (Colorado), Cincinnati, and Louisville (Kentucky).

As an excited fan, I can’t wait for the upcoming announcements from the Sundance Institute! Over the next few weeks, their esteemed committee, comprised of dedicated board members and staffers, will be traveling to various cities. By the end of this year or early in 2025, they’ll share their carefully considered choices with us. I can hardly contain my anticipation!

These exceptional candidates offer us not only the chance to ensure a lasting future for our festival but also an opportunity to expand its rich legacy and encourage emerging storytellers. By showcasing these groundbreaking works of art, we continue to champion the next generation and highlight bold new creations.

For each city under consideration, we evaluate various aspects including infrastructure, size and location, event management abilities, and associated investment and expenses.

As a movie enthusiast, I can assure you that the film festivals in 2025 and 2026 will indeed be held in Park City and Salt Lake City, just like previous years. Contrary to any rumors, this decision is not a mere bluff used during contract negotiations with Utah and the cities for more financial backing. The search process for locations is genuine and vital to ensuring the success of these prestigious events.

Each of these cities shares our vision and values, and they’ve presented intriguing prospects for collaboration with us.
