3 changes we’d like to see to the Power Slap rules & format
As a seasoned gamer and avid follower of combat sports, I’ve watched Dana White’s Power Slap with great interest since its inception. The raw power and intensity displayed by the contestants have kept me hooked to my screen. However, as the competition grows, I believe there are a few changes that could enhance the viewing experience for fans like myself.
Dana White’s Power Slap is an exciting entertainment event where competitors deliver powerful slaps to make their opponents lose consciousness first. The popularity of this competition stems from its thrilling highlights and dramatic knockouts presented in a clear and accessible manner. As the number of participants increases, so do the rules and format adjustments. For instance, since the early days of Power Slap (including preliminary tests), the rules have been modified to enhance viewers’ experience, ensure safety, and minimize fouls. However, we suggest three improvements for Power Slap:
1. Champions choose who slaps first
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: Currently, we have a coin toss deciding who gets to land the first slap in our championship fights. While this adds an element of excitement and allows for additional wagers, I propose we modify the rules slightly. Instead of leaving it to chance, I believe the current champion should have the power to decide whose turn it is to slap first.
2. Harsher punishments for fouls
Recently, the number of fouls, particularly those involving clubbing, has escalated noticeably. It’s unclear what the consequence should be, but something needs to be done to reduce these infringements. A possible solution could be imposing a penalty where a foul results in losing a future opportunity to slap, so if you initially had three opportunities, now you only have two left.
3. Public coin toss
Based on my experience as a longtime MMA fan and observer of the sport’s inner workings, I strongly believe that the coin toss event, which I mentioned earlier, should be conducted in a more public and spectacular manner. As someone who has attended numerous weigh-ins and events, I can attest to the fact that this simple ritual holds significant weight in the minds of fighters and fans alike.
