25 Strongest Titans in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, Ranked

When Legendary Entertainment started working on a new Godzilla film in 2014, many people doubted it would succeed. While the 1998 Godzilla movie was fun, it didn’t capture the serious, atmospheric tone that fans wanted. Other attempts to revive the Godzilla series hadn’t gone well either. Legendary was determined to create a film that paid respect to the original Japanese Toho movies, but also offered something fresh and new.

The first Godzilla movie, directed by Gareth Edwards, wasn’t always easy to follow and had trouble finding the right balance between the human characters and the monster. However, the following films improved on this. As the MonsterVerse has grown, it’s introduced a wider variety of powerful Titans. While some of these monsters are famous, many are lesser-known, and we want to showcase a few, including those appearing in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Suko Has the Potential to Become a Powerhouse

Suko is a new character appearing in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Taking some inspiration from the Son of Kong in the classic King Kong films, Suko is a younger, gorilla-like Titan that Kong encounters deep within the Hollow Earth. Ultimately, Suko joins forces with Kong and Godzilla to defeat the evil Skar King and prevent him from destroying the surface world.

Suko isn’t one of the most powerful Titans we’ve seen in the MonsterVerse. He’s smaller and weaker than many of the other monsters, and would likely lose in a battle against most of them. However, he shows potential in The New Empire, hinting that he could become a major force in the future. It’s currently unknown if he’ll be in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Methuselah Could Be the Oldest Titan in Existence

Named after the longest-lived man in the Bible, Methuselah was a unique and powerful Titan unlike any seen before in the MonsterVerse. Initially an ally of King Ghidorah, he later switched sides and began helping Godzilla. Because of his design, which incorporates elements of plants, animals, and even rock formations, many fans speculate that Methuselah could be the very first Titan to have ever existed.

Methuselah is the heaviest Titan in the MonsterVerse, even bigger than King Ghidorah. Despite his massive size – 170,000 tons – he can completely hide himself. While he’s not aggressive like other Titans, his sheer size and weight mean he could easily crush them. No other Titan has the same raw power to simply push through anything in its path.

The Giant Skullcrawler Caused Epic Chaos

Kong faced off against a huge Skullcrawler. The Skullcrawler easily overpowered him, tossing him around a lake and even using its tongue to restrain him. It quickly became clear the Skullcrawler was much stronger, and the fight ended with Kong being slammed into the cliffs.

The Skullcrawler was a formidable opponent, forcing Kong to rely on the humans on the island to draw its attention with gunfire. Using this distraction, Kong was able to defeat the creature with a ship’s anchor and chain. However, the battle left Kong severely injured. The fight made Kong realize his home held dangers he hadn’t previously known about.

The Frost Vark Is One of the Most Durable Titans

The series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters revealed the existence of the Frost Vark in Alaska. This powerful Titan is one of the few known to thrive in extremely cold environments, and it skillfully uses its surroundings to its advantage. The Frost Vark is essentially an updated version of a MUTO, making it a formidable opponent that most other Titans would struggle to defeat. Surprisingly, despite its massive size, this creature can move with incredible speed both above ground and under the frozen permafrost.

The Frost Vark is a powerfully built creature covered in thick armor. Though it has glowing tendrils around its nose, these aren’t used for fighting. Instead, it relies on incredible strength and its protective plates. Its claws are sharp enough to cut through ancient ice, meaning even a foe as tough as Godzilla wouldn’t be much of a challenge. Most dangerously, the Frost Vark can drop the temperature around it so quickly that anyone nearby would instantly freeze to death.

Typhon Was Named After the Greek Father of Monsters

As a huge monster movie fan, I always thought Godzilla was the ultimate king, but when you really look at the mythology, Typhon deserves that title! He comes from the earliest Titans – Tartarus and Gaia – and basically created a whole bunch of other monsters, including Scylla, who we actually see in the MonsterVerse. Seriously, this guy was unbelievably powerful – legend says only Zeus’s lightning bolts could bring him down. It makes you wonder if Godzilla is really at the top of the food chain!

The MonsterVerse briefly introduces Typhon through a mention on a screen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The story reveals he was one of the Titans that escaped from Monarch Outpost 92, responding to King Ghidorah’s call. Although we don’t actually see Typhon in the movie – he causes destruction in the Philippines off-screen – the film establishes him as a tremendously powerful creature.

The Hawk Is One of the Strongest Aerial Titans

The Hawk is a large, bird-like creature featured in the animated series Skull Island. It appears in scenes showing Kong’s past, revealing it’s a native of Skull Island who teams up with other giant creatures to protect their home from enemies. As of now, the Hawk hasn’t been seen in any of the live-action movies or the Monarch TV series.

Despite appearing briefly in the MonsterVerse, the Hawk is a formidable creature. Its immense size makes it incredibly powerful, and its ability to fly gives it a unique aerial attack that most other Titans struggle to counter. However, compared to the strongest Titans in the MonsterVerse, the Hawk isn’t quite as strong.

Abaddon Might Just Be the Most Terrifying MonsterVerse Titan

In mythology and the Bible, Abaddon is known as the angelic leader of locusts. However, in the MonsterVerse films, he appears as a terrifying, giant spider. While Titans are often inspired by real animals, dramatically increasing a spider’s size and abilities is a particularly effective way to create a frightening monster. Abaddon’s full backstory and design were revealed in the Legendary comic MonsterVerse Declassified and the video game Kong Survivor Instinct.

Monarch describes Abbadon as a ‘bio-fossorial kaiju,’ meaning it can enter a state of hibernation lasting decades or even centuries. While Abbadon isn’t strong enough to defeat most Titans on its own, it once survived a direct attack from King Kong. What truly makes Abbadon terrifying, however, is its control over a vast network of offspring – a kind of hive mind. To make matters worse, it can also control human bodies like puppets.

Camazotz Annihilated the Ecosystem of Skull Island

Camazotz is a massive, god-like creature named after a bat-like death god in Mayan mythology. The MonsterVerse suggests this Titan may have actually inspired the ancient legends. It’s far more than just a giant bat, though – Camazotz looks like a terrifying, mutated demon with torn wings, creating a truly nightmarish image. Its worn and damaged appearance shows just how many battles it’s fought and won.

In the story, Camazotz is portrayed as a huge, destructive creature – a Titan – capable of leveling buildings simply by screaming. His sonic scream is so powerful it can even throw other Titans off balance. Camazotz plays a key part in the graphic novel Kingdom Kong, where he fights Kong. While he loses the battle, Camazotz’s actions cause massive damage to the environment of Skull Island.

The Ion Dragon Almost Mangled Godzilla Himself

The Ion Dragon initially confronted Godzilla deep within Hollow Earth. Though smaller than a MUTO, its size actually helped it. It skillfully maneuvered around Godzilla, even managing to spray a gooey substance in his face. This blocked Godzilla from using his atomic breath, and the dragon took the opportunity to bite him, demonstrating both its power and intelligence as a Titan.

In the 2014 Godzilla film, it took two monsters, the MUTOs, to defeat him. However, in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Ion Dragon fought Godzilla incredibly well, almost single-handedly, until Godzilla finally overpowered and destroyed it. This shows the Ion Dragon is much stronger than the MUTOs from the first MonsterVerse movie. While the battle left Godzilla tired, he seemed energized by the intense fight.

Na Kika’s Intelligence Makes Them a Unique Threat

Na Kika, discovered resting in the Indian Ocean by Monarch, resembles a giant squid and is sometimes called Kraken. While generally peaceful when Godzilla was in charge, Na Kika was captured by Russian terrorists with an electric net and needed help to break free. This incident doesn’t fully demonstrate the extent of Na Kika’s powers.

Na Kika is smarter than most Titans and cleverly evaded Monarch’s monitoring by feigning their own death in response to Ghidorah’s summons. While naturally a water-dwelling creature, Na Kika can also move on land using its tentacles. These tentacles have special suction cups that not only grip surfaces, but can also absorb energy from other Titans – a rare ability among kaiju.
