Zoe Ball reveals her daughter Nelly, 16, has ADHD and is the third member of their family to be diagnosed after her and her son Woody

Zoe Ball shared that her daughter, Nelly, age 16, has been diagnosed with ADHD, making her the third person in their family to receive the diagnosis.

Radio host Zoe, age 55, and her son, Woody, 25, both live with a condition that affects attention, energy levels, and impulse control.

Zoe shares her two children with her ex husband Norman Cook, better known as DJ Fatboy Slim.

Zoe recently told The Mirror that her daughter, Nell, is now taking medication to help her focus and learn at school.

I talk about having ADHD a lot. Actually, understanding how others experience and manage their challenges has helped me understand my own.

It’s understandable that Nell’s room gets messy, with clothes scattered around. However, she’s recently started a new routine: every Sunday evening, she spends a couple of hours tidying up her room, preparing for the school week, putting things away, and taking a relaxing shower.

Honestly, it’s been so rewarding watching her discover this on her own. It’s a ‘yes!’ moment for me. Life gets chaotic, and you start to truly appreciate the power of a little bit of order. That’s something I’ve really focused on building into my own lifestyle – finding calm within the craziness.

Zoe first revealed her own ADHD diagnosis in December 2023. 

In 2024, Zoe’s son, Woody, shared that his ADHD actually helps him excel as a DJ, especially after his first performance at Glastonbury the month before.

He explained that his health condition has become what makes him stand out as a DJ. Because he’s constantly moving while performing, it helps him differentiate himself from others.

Woody explained to the Daily Mail that his ADHD has influenced his creative style, saying he’s always been a restless and energetic person.

I thought about using ‘Monkey Man’ as my DJ name, because if I let loose and express myself, it’ll help the audience feel more free as well.

He shared that his experience with ADHD has surprisingly helped him connect deeply with the energy and flow of performing as a DJ, alongside a hype man, finding a unique synergy in the process.

As a DJ, it’s about putting on a show – it’s not just about playing music. I definitely try to get the crowd moving with my energy and performance, and I think it works.

Woody began DJing as a way to keep himself and his friends entertained while nightclubs were closed during lockdown.

Despite his dad’s success, he claims to have never been given a lesson and is self-taught.

Norman, a successful musician with three Top 10 albums and seven Top 10 singles, has been offering his son guidance on life, rather than specific music techniques, as he starts his own music career.

Woody explained that his father didn’t formally teach him how to play, and he didn’t have access to turntables as a child. Instead, his father focused on giving him guidance and advice.

‘I would ask him questions like, ‘why did you do that in a set?’ ‘Why did you do this?’

He’d often challenge me, saying, ‘You might not become the top DJ, but you can be the most memorable.’ He’d push me to think about what would make me stand out – why would a promoter or club owner choose me over nine other DJs? What could I offer that was truly different?

‘So he gave me a lot of life lessons rather than actual hands-on stuff.’

Woody added: ‘It was just my own curiosity. I was like, ‘I’ll teach myself.’

Zoe celebrated her daughter Nelly’s sixteenth birthday in January by sharing cute old photos, including some with Nelly’s father, her ex-husband Norman.

The radio host and DJ, both 62, separated in 2016 after 18 years of marriage, but they’ve stayed good friends and continue to co-parent their children.

Zoe celebrated Nelly’s Sweet 16th birthday on Instagram by sharing a collection of photos from throughout the years, with the caption: ‘Happy Sweet 16 BG ♥️ love you Nelly Noodle.’

The photos featured a young Nelly at the beach in her hometown of Brighton with her father, along with other heartwarming family pictures.

Sharing his own tribute, her brother Woody posted a carousel of photos of them both together. 

He captioned his update: ‘Happy Birthday to my Favourite Sister I’ll ever have!!!!!!!’ 

Zoe and Norman got together over the holidays and playfully described themselves as a cheerfully chaotic family while celebrating Christmas with their kids.
