As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive into Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, where the captivating characters truly shine! The diverse ensemble, each brimming with distinct personalities, is what makes this game a standout. While the bond between protagonist Henry and his liege, Hans Capon, is noteworthy, every core character leaves an indelible mark on you. However, it’s Jan Zizka who steals the show as one of the most intriguing characters. His character arc mirrors that of Dutch van der Linde from Red Dead Redemption 2, undergoing a significant transformation throughout the game.

In an interesting twist, although they are set in distinct eras, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 share numerous unexpected parallels. Both narratives revolve around a multitude of characters who find themselves on the wrong side of the law, battling against oppressive powers in challenging environments. While robberies and evading authorities are common aspects of the Van der Linde Gang and the Devil’s Pack’s lifestyle, their leaders display a superficial resemblance but ultimately head towards contrasting paths.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Builds Zizka into a Folk Hero

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, players initially encounter Jan Zizka as a ruthless bandit leader. The initial segment of the game finds Henry and Hans endeavoring to win Lord Otto von Bergow’s allegiance, hoping he will change his backing for Sigismund and join their struggle. Simultaneously, they seek retribution against the marauders who attacked their camp at the outset of the game. This mission places players squarely opposite Zizka, who is feigning as Nebakov’s lord and orchestrating secret raids against von Bergow’s forces in the vicinity.

In the latter stages of the game, it’s revealed that von Bergow wasn’t planning to betray Sigismund, and surprisingly, Zizka was working for King Wenceslas all along. This newfound knowledge prompts Henry and Hans to team up with Zizka because their goals now align. The story then portrays Zizka in a new light as the group collaborates to recruit allies. They discover Zizka to be a formidable leader, capable of turning even the wildest plans into success. By the end, when players manage to defend Suchdol successfully, Zizka has earned his title as a reliable ally and hero for Bohemia.

Red Dead Redemption Leads Dutch from Loyal Leader to Villain

As a gamer, I find myself standing in stark contrast to Zizka’s arc within Red Dead Redemption 2, as I navigate the story of Dutch van der Linde. Like Zizka, Dutch is a charismatic leader of an outlaw gang, drawing diverse individuals together under the banner of freedom from the fast-paced industrialization of the Wild West. However, unlike Zizka, my character, Dutch, embarks on a path divergent to his.

Despite early flaws exposed in the botched Blackwater job, Dutch manages to keep the gang united around him, not just because of his strategic abilities, but more so due to his unwavering loyalty and lofty ideals. As I play the game, I find myself drawn into the enigma that is Dutch van der Linde, a complex character who straddles the line between righteousness and chaos.

In Dutch, signs of disloyalty bring out his hidden flaws, and even doubt from his dearest comrade Arthur Morgan stirs up his suspicions, ultimately leading to his demise. On the other hand, Zizka responds to betrayal with grace and determination. As the Van der Linde gang falls apart due to Dutch’s growing paranoia, his transformation into a shattered remnant of his former self uncovers the tragic villain concealed within the charming leader – a stark contrast to the journey Zizka’s character undergoes in “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.”
