Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Seasons Switch 2 Remake Sounds Better Than OOT

It now seems almost certain that Nintendo is working on a remake of Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, despite not having officially confirmed it.

For years, people have been speculating about a remake of the classic Ocarina of Time, and recent reports from reliable sources suggest it’s actually happening. However, alongside this news, another potential Zelda project has emerged that’s generating a lot of excitement: a remake of Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Some fans believe this could be an even more appealing project.

While Ocarina of Time is incredibly famous and important, the older, 2D Zelda games truly capture what makes the series special. The Oracle games, in particular, are often overlooked but are some of the best in the entire franchise.

Talks About a Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Ages Remake Are Ramping Up

A remake of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages with updated graphics, fully animated cutscenes like those in the Link’s Awakening remake, and modern controls could be a truly exceptional Zelda game. And it seems this possibility might be happening sooner than many fans expect.

Recently, information surfaced online suggesting a remake of Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons might be in development. This new leak actually supports a much older one, which originally revealed codenames for Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom.

Several months after Nintendo announced Echoes of Wisdom, a leaker named Nash Weedle revealed the internal project names for three Zelda games: Richard, Edward, and Bernard. We now know that “Richard” referred to the 2019 remake of Link’s Awakening, and “Edward” was the code name used for Echoes of Wisdom, which will release in 2024.

Weedle recently shared an old tweet with a mysterious message: “Hero, wake up, the drums are resounding for 2027.” This likely refers to the game Oracle of Seasons, which is set in the land of Holodrum – the place Weedle seems to be referencing with the mention of “drums.”

Hearing about “drums” might just mean a remake of Oracle of Seasons is coming initially, with Ages following later—possibly even a year after that. (Oracle of Ages is set in the faraway land of Labrynna.)

An Oracle of Seasons and Ages Remake Makes Perfect Sense for the Zelda Franchise Right Now

As a huge fan, I’m getting really excited about the possibility of remakes for Oracle of Age and Seasons! It’s just a rumor right now, nothing confirmed, but if they were to release them next year, it would actually make a lot of sense timing-wise. It feels like the perfect moment!

Currently, most speculation suggests the next major Zelda game won’t be released until late 2026. While the Zelda team has already begun work on the next 3D installment, it’s unlikely to be finished by 2027. Releasing a remake of Oracle of Seasons and Ages gives Nintendo more development time and provides fans with something to enjoy while they wait for the next major game to be announced.

I previously suggested that Nintendo could release a new Zelda game every year by having Monolith Soft take a key role in Zelda development, similar to how Grezzo currently contributes. Considering Grezzo’s work on 2D Zelda titles like Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom, it’s likely they’ll also be heavily involved in remaking Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages.

Since Echoes of Wisdom came out two years ago, it’s reasonable to think Grezzo could have the next 2D Zelda game finished by next year. This is especially likely if they’re still using the same game engine as the Link’s Awakening remake and Echoes of Wisdom.

Both The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are standouts in the Zelda series, and more people should experience them. That’s why a remake would be so great! While Ocarina of Time is a beloved classic, a remake of the Oracle games would be even more impactful, bringing fresh attention to two titles that haven’t gotten the recognition they deserve within the large Zelda collection.
