Zelda Officially Returns With New Release October 2026

The company is celebrating its 40th anniversary with some exciting news! Fans can look forward to a movie based on their popular fantasy adventure series, and a remake of the classic Ocarina of Time game is almost certainly coming. They’re going all out with these projects, though a completely new game hasn’t been announced yet.

Nintendo recently announced another major game coming this year: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Secrets of the Zonai. Set for release in October 2026, this new Zelda title promises a rich story, stunning artwork, and a completely original narrative, making it a highly anticipated game for fans.

I was really hoping for a new Zelda game for the Switch 2, but it looks like this October we’re getting something different: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Secrets of the Zonai. It’s not a new game, unfortunately, but a beautiful, 424-page hardcover book! From what I’ve heard, it’s a fantastic follow-up to Tears of the Kingdom and a great deep dive into the whole world of Zelda lore. I’m still excited – a gorgeous book like this is always a welcome addition for a big fan like me!

Begin your exploration with ‘Secrets of the Zonai.’ This book features over 50 pages of stunning artwork, including character designs and promotional images. Then, discover nearly 300 pages of behind-the-scenes content – sketches, notes, early designs, and concept art – offering a unique look at how the game was made. Finally, journey back in time to learn the history of Hyrule, with over 80 pages detailing the kingdom’s origins and the enigmatic Zonai, leading up to the events within the game.

This isn’t just a typical art book! The creators of The Legend of Zelda – Eiji Aonuma, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and Satoru Takizawa – are all working directly on its content. That means fans who love the series’ story can be sure any new details revealed are officially part of the Zelda universe.

It’s unclear whether future Zelda games will continue the story started with Breath of the Wild, or if the new Switch 2 will take the series in a completely new direction, perhaps influenced by the upcoming movie. Even if the new console is real, it will likely be a while before we find out what Nintendo has planned.

If this world doesn’t get any further installments, then The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Secrets of the Zonai becomes even more crucial. It would then serve as the perfect conclusion not only to the two most popular Zelda games of all time, but also to two of the most story-rich spin-off titles in the entire series.
