You can buy and live in Gosford Castle, the real-life Riverrun from Game of Thrones

As a seasoned gamer and ardent fan of Game of Thrones, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stumbled upon a golden opportunity that’s been carved out of the very stone walls of Westeros itself. The thought of owning a piece of history, where Robb Stark exacted his justice and Jaime Lannister plotted his strategies, is nothing short of exhilarating!

In Westeros, the castles are nearly as legendary as some of its characters. Places like Winterfell, the Red Keep, Riverrun, and more were stunningly portrayed on ‘Game of Thrones’. Now, if you have approximately £675,000 ($895,802), you could potentially own and reside in one!

Indeed, as per CPS Property, Gosford Castle is currently up for sale. This grand structure can be found in the town of Markethill, nestled within Northern Ireland. In the popular series “Game of Thrones,” it made appearances during the third and sixth seasons. It was the location where Robb Stark carried out the execution of Rickard Karstark, and subsequently, Jaime Lannister visited for a few episodes when he was sent to handle the Tullys who were defying the crown by occupying Riverrun Castle.

In reality, Gosford Castle was built between 1819 and 1825, so it wasn’t an actual medieval castle, but rather built by a British royal back when constructing castles for yourself was all the rage. It was used to house soldiers during World War II, though, so there is some historical interest.

A part of the castle was indeed sold in the year 2019, transforming it into six separate living spaces, which are more commonly known as apartments or flats in British terms. The property available for purchase currently is labeled as a semi-detached house, boasting three bedrooms, two kitchen areas, three bathrooms, and four reception rooms. In total, it encompasses an area of about 5403 square feet.

This place also features an elevator (or lift, depending on where you’re from), as well as two entryways. It’s approximately an hour drive from both Belfast and Dublin and boasts a picturesque location amidst a beautiful woodland region. Feel free to join the guided video tour below:

It appears that there’s an abundance of merchandise related to “Game of Thrones” on sale recently, and HBO is planning to auction off a large collection of props, costumes, and other items from the series later this month. However, acquiring Riverrun would undoubtedly be the most noteworthy. So, it might be worth searching through your couch cushions!
