Both martial artists are hiding their true intentions, and their rivalry is further complicated by their attraction to the same woman. However, they must eventually put aside their differences and work together to defeat Silver Fox.

The 1977 film Secret Rivals 2 continues the story from the first movie. Hwang Jang Lee is back as the villain, this time playing Gold Fox, the vengeful brother of Silver Fox. Gold Fox is determined to get revenge on the heroes from Secret Rivals, but only John Liu (as Northern Leg) returns. Instead of teaming up with his original partner, Southern Fist, Liu’s character joins forces with Southern Fist’s brother, Shen Wing Yu (also known as Tino Wong).

John Liu returned as the lead in Secret Rivals 3, concluding the story of Northern Leg and bringing Southern Fist back into the mix – this time played by Alexander Lou instead of Wong Tao. The 1981 martial arts film features a reunion between Northern Leg and Southern Fist, but they are now adversaries. Northern Leg is falsely accused of murder and must earn Southern Fist’s trust again to uncover the true criminal.

While Secret Rivals resolves its main storyline, the series truly revolves around the evolving relationship between two enigmatic men—their initial rivalry gradually transforming into an alliance. Throughout the three films, Liu’s character consistently navigates misunderstandings and competition to achieve his objectives.
