Xbox Surprise Release Includes Two Elder Scrolls Games

Xbox has a new treat for PC Game Pass members: not just one, but two Elder Scrolls games! While reports suggest the Elder Scrolls 6 release date is approaching, it’s still some time away. If you’re a Bethesda RPG fan who’s played Skyrim countless times and are looking for something different from The Elder Scrolls Online, you might be interested in revisiting some classic titles. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered quietly launched earlier this year, and now two more older games from the series have been added to PC Game Pass without a big announcement.

Among the Elder Scrolls games, you can now play The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard with PC Game Pass Premium or PC Game Pass Ultimate. Originally released for MS-DOS in 1998, this game stands out in the RPG series because it’s the only one where you play as a specific character and experience the story from a fixed, third-person perspective. Despite the title, the game doesn’t take place in Hammerfell – the region many expect to be the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6. Instead, the story unfolds on Stros M’Kai, an island near the Redguard homeland.

About The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard

The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard is the fourth game in the series, but it’s a side story, not one of the main games. When it first came out, the RPG didn’t get amazing reviews, scoring 78% on GameRankings – a decent result, but not as high as other games made by Bethesda. However, this was four years before the series really took off and became the huge RPG success we know today, with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind completely surprising everyone in the gaming industry.

About An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire

Another new PC Game Pass game is Redguard’s earlier title, An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire, which offers a different experience within the series. As the third game in the RPG series-and a spin-off title-it’s unique because it takes place in Battlespire, a magical school linked to Oblivion. This means it’s the only game in the franchise not located in Tamriel. Unlike other games in the series, Battlespire is more focused on a direct storyline; it doesn’t have towns, NPCs, or shops, and it even includes a multiplayer option. While its sequel was reasonably well-received, Battlespire didn’t impress many, scoring just 63% on GameRankings.

Both of these titles come from Bethesda, a studio owned by Xbox, making them strong candidates for a permanent spot on PC Game Pass. However, they aren’t currently available on consoles, so don’t anticipate them being added to Xbox Game Pass.
