Worm Paint is the only art program with full worm functionality
As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the most realistic simulations to the most abstract experiments in digital art. But nothing quite compares to the whimsical and downright bizarre world of Worm Paint.
As a passionate gamer and an artist at heart, I’ve experimented with various mediums for creating art – from traditional methods like acrylics or oils on canvas, pencils on paper, inks and markers, to digital techniques using diverse software. Yet, something truly extraordinary has caught my attention lately. It’s an innovative paint program named Worm Paint. You can download it from itch.io, or if you prefer a more convenient option, try it out directly in your browser on Newgrounds. The features and fun tools this program offers are unlike anything I’ve experienced before!
When Tristone began creating Worm Paint a few weeks ago, it was still unnamed and temporarily called “paintgame.” He then added a worm feature as a fun idea. A post showcasing the worms on Twitter gained significant attention, leading Triston to focus on the worm theme for the game’s popularity.
you really gotta *think* hard while drawing now!

Tristone’s creation, “Worm Paint,” brought back memories of my childhood experience with the whimsical art software, “KidPix.” Tristone drew inspiration from various sources. He shared, “I was mainly influenced by games such as Mario Paint and WarioWare DIY due to their abundance of creative tools. However, I was also inspired by lesser-known free games like the old ‘S Stress Reducer Desktop Destroyer’ and LeatherIceCream’s game ‘Hedgehog Dilemma For Robots,’ which boasts an intriguing stamp and drawing feature on its game over screen.”
Instead of focusing on advanced color pickers and perspective tools like some other art programs, Worm Paint provides a unique set of tools. You’ll find a portal gun for transporting artwork elements, a hammer for destructive canvas manipulation, and the signature worms. Observe as they crawl across your screen, grab them with a fishing rod, or just crush them, releasing tiny worm spirits that ascend to the heavens.
Worm Paint is a game filled with an abundance of unique, homemade tools that some broadcasters are using to create simplified games within it. The game’s creators intended for it to be customizable, enabling players to incorporate their own tools as desired. While Worm Paint might not technically qualify as a top-tier art program, it’s not meant for creating grand masterpieces; instead, it exists for the purpose of providing enjoyment through elements like explosions and slot machines.

In today’s world filled with an abundance of quirky, daring, and captivating indie games, it’s refreshing to see people exploring the hidden gem that is “Worm Paint” amidst a crowded year for major game launches. The allure of creating art on a malleable, transient surface, only to destroy it or adorn it with wriggling worms, offers an unparalleled sense of liberation.
As a passionate gamer and artist at heart, I find joy in both creating intricate masterpieces with advanced software and experimenting with simpler tools like Worm Paint.
