As a gamer who’s been around for a while and has seen my fair share of pop culture icons come and go, I can truly say that Quincy Jones was a titan in the industry. He was more than just a producer or composer; he was a mentor, a father figure, and a friend to many.
In a touching tribute, Will Smith acknowledged the passing of Quincy Jones, the esteemed producer behind “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
The legendary producer and composer died over the weekend aged 91, with tributes flooding in from the world of entertainment.
One of them is Smith, who collaborated with Jones on “The Fresh Prince” – a project where Jones held the roles of executive producer and composer.
Smith titled an Instagram photo with the late Quincy Jones, saying, “Jones truly embodies a Mentor, a Father figure, and a Friend.” He guided me to the best aspects of myself.
“He stood up for me, cared for me, motivated me, ignited my passion, and corrected me when necessary. He allowed me to borrow his abilities until I could soar on my own.” (This version maintains the original meaning while using simpler, more conversational language.)
Throughout his professional journey, Jones gained recognition for collaborating with artists like Frank Sinatra, Lesley Gore, Count Basie, and notably Michael Jackson. Additionally, he created music scores for films such as “The Italian Job”, “The Wiz”, and “The Color Purple”.
Besides Sir Paul McCartney, other stars who have paid tribute say that Quincy Jones is no longer with us, leaving a void among those who had the pleasure of knowing him. They recall his immense talent, and consider themselves fortunate to have been acquainted with him over many years.
In addition to this, Oprah Winfrey paid homage to the legendary Quincy Jones on her Instagram post, acknowledging him as the one who discovered her for the “The Color Purple” film back in 1985.
She shared that her life took a wonderful turn for the best upon encountering him. No one else before or since has ever seemed to carry such an abundance of love in their heart.
