The first season of A Taste For Murder finished with a major cliffhanger, leaving fans eager to find out if the ITV drama will be renewed. The show, which began in April 2026, centers on DCI Joe Mottram, a widower trying to start over in Capri with his daughter and in-laws.
Although Italy provided a beautiful backdrop, Joe soon became involved in a series of risky murder investigations with the help of local detective Lara Sarrancino.
Throughout the series, Joe and Lara investigated a variety of cases, including a death at a murder mystery event, crimes involving tourists, and a mystery connected to a retired actress. However, the season finale took a dangerous turn when they confronted the Camorra, a powerful and infamous Mafia group with connections extending well beyond the island of Capri.

The episode seemed to end with a positive outlook. After a lot of back and forth, Angelica chose to stay in Italy and assist her grandparents with their restaurant, instead of going back to Britain with Joe.
Joe confessed he wasn’t quite ready to commit to living in Capri long-term, even though he told Lara their farewell wasn’t forever. However, some surprising news could have completely changed his mind.
What to Read Next
Just before he left, Lara shared a surprising discovery she’d made while reviewing Sofia’s case. It turns out Sofia’s death, which everyone thought was a random hit-and-run, might have been intentional.
Lara found a card with a symbol connected to the Camorra at the first crime scene. The same card showed up again after Angelica called Joe, terrified, to report that her grandparents’ restaurant had been firebombed.
It was obvious the Camorra had been threatening Sofia before she died, and now they were increasing those threats against her family. However, the most important questions about what happened to Sofia remain unanswered.

Honestly, as a viewer, I’m still totally confused about why Sofia was targeted. We don’t know what she knew before she died, or even why they killed her off! The most likely explanation so far seems to be that she got caught in the middle of the Camorra trying to scare her dad, Gennaro. Apparently, he secretly borrowed money from this Camorra boss, Rocco Di Biasi, when his business was struggling, and Sofia somehow got pulled into all of that.
Now that Joe is personally involved, he’s unlikely to abandon the case. If the show continues, a second season would likely center around Joe and Lara working together to take down Di Biasi and solve the mystery of Sofia’s murder. It also remains to be seen whether Joe will decide to stay in Italy for good, particularly as he and Lara grow closer.
After the final confrontation, Joe and his team managed to disrupt the Camorra’s activities and uncover a secret smuggling operation. While the operation resulted in several arrests, the true mastermind, Rocco Di Biasi, avoided capture by letting his subordinates take the blame. This means Joe and the Da Vinale family are still in significant danger.
As of today, ITV and BritBox haven’t announced if A Taste For Murder will be renewed for another season. However, the way the first season ended strongly suggests they’re considering it. With Sofia’s murder still a mystery, the ongoing threat of the Camorra, and Joe’s future up in the air, there are many unanswered questions and potential storylines to continue.
