Naga Munchetty will be leaving BBC Breakfast next year after 17 years with the show. She’s moving to become a co-host of BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, as was announced yesterday.
Recent reports in The Mirror suggest BBC Breakfast is going through a difficult period and needs a fresh start. This follows a formal review of Naga Munchetty last year after claims of bullying, as reported by The Sun.
The celebrity was accused of misconduct twice over three years, including allegedly bullying a coworker and telling an inappropriate joke when not on the air. Following a first look in August, more complaints led to a full investigation. According to reports in The Standard, the investigation has now been closed, and the results haven’t been made public.
This follows previous accusations that Richard Frediani, the editor of BBC Breakfast, had engaged in bullying behavior. Naga Munchetty is reported to have voiced worries about how he acted, but he was ultimately found not guilty of those claims.
Earlier this year, Naga Munchetty faced criticism for a seemingly sarcastic comment made to Carol Kirkwood on her final day as a weather presenter. Kirkwood had jokingly said on air, “Thank you all for coming – and even you, Nags!”
Munchetty responded: “I’m just waiting for the countdown for you to go!”
