Why do so many UFC fighters support Donald Trump?

As a gamer who has spent countless hours watching UFC fights, I must admit that the relationship between Donald Trump and these athletes is quite intriguing. From my perspective, it boils down to simple human nature – we’re drawn to those who acknowledge our existence. Trump has been a consistent supporter of the UFC, attending events, commenting on fights, and even helping UFC fighters during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s become common among MMA enthusiasts to observe a strong connection between Donald Trump and many UFC fighters. Notable athletes like Colby Covington, Michael Chandler, and Jorge Masvidal have publicly voiced their support for the former U.S. President. After fights, some fighters have praised Trump in interviews, taken photos with him ringside, or leaped over the Octagon to greet him. Following the assassination attempt on Trump, numerous UFC fighters showed solidarity with him, with some even discussing it during UFC Denver broadcasts.

Why are UFC fighters so fascinated by the contentious figure? In my opinion, it’s quite straightforward. Humans tend to be drawn to individuals who acknowledge us. We all crave attention. Donald Trump consistently acknowledges the UFC community. He frequently attends events, offers comments on fights, and even participated in the sport before, during, and after his time in office.

Donald Trump and the UFC go hand in hand, here’s why

Many UFC fighters, much like many others, are more focused on the fact that Trump appears to care about them personally, rather than delving into specifics of his policies. It’s hard not to be drawn towards someone who seems to show such concern, isn’t it? Trump has been a long-time supporter of UFC, allowing the sport to take place in his casinos when others were turning away. He even attended events and invited fighters like Colby Covington to the Oval Office upon winning titles. It’s also said that he helped UFC fighters obtain visas for entry into the US during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given his support for the UFC over the years, it’s no surprise that the UFC fighters are returning the favor.

Moreover, it’s not surprising that UFC fighters support their boss Dana White, who has addressed the Republican National Convention on two occasions, most recently announcing Trump as the nominee this year. Given their position, it appears to be a shrewd business move for them to align with his close ally.

As a devoted fan, I personally believe that while some fighters align with his political views, many others view their support for Trump as a means to connect with a prominent figure in the world rather than out of genuine belief or alignment with his policies. A clear illustration of this is Khabib Nurmagomedov, who isn’t a US citizen and thus unable to vote, but when he met Trump, he seized the brief moment to request his assistance in ending the conflict in Gaza if re-elected. It seems plausible that had Nurmagomedov shared the same brief encounter with any other presidential candidate, he would have expressed similar sentiments.

Interestingly, following this event, Trump was posed a question about his preferred martial artist, and surprisingly he mentioned Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. This sent Conor McGregor into a frenzy.

This tale doesn’t aim to influence your choice in voting this November; rather, the candidate you decide to support is a deeply individual matter, and we value and understand that everyone has their own political stance.
