Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, who plays Officer Sebastian Rose on the BBC crime drama Death in Paradise, believes season 15 could be the show’s best yet. He told Radio Times that the new season has a fresh feel thanks to a revitalized cast and some fantastic guest stars, and he assures fans he’s not just saying that because he’s in it!
The change he’s talking about involves Ginny Holder leaving the show – she played Officer Darlene Curtis – and Catherine Garton joining the cast as Sergeant Maggie Fletcher. Ali-Yebuah said Holder’s sudden departure came as a “surprise.”
The actor, Sebastian Rose, shared that they’re sad to see her go. He reminisced about how she was his first audition partner and a close colleague during his first season on the show, emphasizing how much she will be missed.

Don Warrington, who has been with Death in Paradise the longest, shared that losing a colleague is always difficult. He’s known the character of Holder for years and acknowledged that cast changes are simply part of the television industry.
Mattie Fletcher has joined the Saint Marie police team, replacing Darlene, but adjusting to life on the island hasn’t been easy for her after moving from Jamaica.

Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas and Officer Sebastian Rose are guiding new recruit Sergeant Mattie Fletcher as she starts her job. However, Mattie’s past is catching up to her, potentially making the transition more difficult than expected.
I’m so excited about the new character! The actress told Radio Times that she’s really driven – she’s got a lot to prove, both to herself and everyone around her. Apparently, that drive can sometimes get her into trouble, but it all comes from a good place. We’re definitely going to see her go through some tough times and good times, and apparently, she’s going to be super sassy, which I can’t wait for!

Although Season 15 premiered just recently on January 31st, work on Season 16 is already starting. Ali-Yebuah has announced that filming will begin in late April.
“We’re starting all over again,” Ali-Yebuah shared with Radio Times. “We’re heading back to Guadeloupe to get some sun and regain our tans. I’m really pale right now – I look like Bart Simpson! It’s going to be great.”
