The multiple delays for Anne Hathaway’s new science-fiction movie now have an explanation.
Anne Hathaway is known for her versatility, appearing in everything from lighthearted romantic comedies to deeply moving dramas. However, she’s particularly memorable in science fiction films like Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, where she played Dr. Amelia Brand, and Colossal. Colossal is a quirky and often overlooked sci-fi comedy where Hathaway’s character discovers her behavior somehow creates a giant monster in Seoul, South Korea.
Recent setbacks with Anne Hathaway’s upcoming sci-fi film, The End of Oak Street, are linked to changes at J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. When Hannah Minghella, Bad Robot’s film head, left for Netflix during post-production, her position wasn’t filled. This created further issues when the film needed Anne Hathaway and other actors for reshoots, but she was busy filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. As a result, post-production on The End of Oak Street stalled for approximately six months.
Originally called Flowervale Street, the movie The End of Oak Street was first planned to be in theaters on May 16, 2025. However, its release was moved to March 13, 2026, and then again to August 14th. The film stars Anne Hathaway, along with Ewan McGregor as her husband, and Christian Convery and Maisy Stella playing their children. The first trailer shows the family’s street being transported to a strange place where they are pursued by a dinosaur.
Even with some setbacks during production, the August 14th release date is actually good news for The End of Oak Street. It gives the film a chance to become a big hit at the end of summer. Several highly anticipated movies like Disclosure Day, Toy Story 5, Supergirl, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are all coming out in June or July. The End of Oak Street will be released two weeks or more after those films, making it the first major movie to debut in August.
The End of Oak Street marks the first film released under the renewed deal between Bad Robot and Warner Bros., originally established in 2019 and extended in 2024. The movie is a passion project for David Robert Mitchell, who wrote, directed, and produced it. He’s known for his work on the horror film It Follows and the critically acclaimed Under the Silver Lake. The score was composed by Michael Giacchino, a frequent collaborator with Bad Robot, having created the music for shows like Lost, Alias, and Fringe, as well as films like Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and Super 8.
Following the upcoming release of The End of Oak Street, J.J. Abrams has another film, The Great Beyond, scheduled to come out on November 13th. This marks Abrams’ first directorial effort since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and features a cast including Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, Samuel L. Jackson, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, and Merritt Wever.
