Season 5 of The Boys will feature a new Supe named Bombsight, played by an actor well-known from Stranger Things. A preview for episode 6 hinted at Bombsight’s arrival, which followed a few episodes after his first mention. The show suggests Bombsight possesses a vial of V-One, the original version of Compound V, making him incredibly powerful like Soldier Boy.
The upcoming series Vought Rising—a prequel to The Boys—will likely detail the origins of Soldier Boy, Stormfront, Bombsight, and other heroes injected with Compound V. Meanwhile, in The Boys season 5, Butcher and his team tracked down Bombsight to prevent Homelander from obtaining and using Compound V.
The sixth episode of The Boys season 5 reached a dramatic peak, largely focusing on the character Bombsight, played by Mason Dye. While Dye portrays a very different character in The Boys, fans of Stranger Things might recognize him. He played a key supporting role as Jason Carver in season 4 of Stranger Things.
Jason was a basketball teammate of Lucas and was dating Chrissy. When Chrissy was killed by Vecna, Jason wrongly blamed Eddie Munson. This led him and his teammates on a hunt for Eddie, which ended in a fight with Lucas. Jason ultimately died when a tear in reality from the Upside Down ripped him apart. The actor who played Jason, Dye, hadn’t been in many major shows since, but he now has a significant role as Bombsight in both The Boys and Vought Rising.
Mason Dye’s Characters In The Boys & Stranger Things Couldn’t Be More Different
Mason Dye delivers a strikingly different performance as Bombsight in The Boys season 5, episode 6, compared to his role as Jason in Stranger Things. Jason is the quintessential 1980s high school athlete – popular, charming, and a star on and off the field, even dating a cheerleader. However, as Stranger Things season 4 unfolds, Jason’s character takes a menacing turn when he begins targeting Eddie.
Even though Jason doesn’t understand the strange world of the Upside Down, he has good reasons for being against Eddie, and ends up acting as a secondary villain. This connection to being an opponent is similar to Bombsight, who briefly appeared in The Boys as an enemy of Billy Butcher, Hughie, and the rest of the team – it’s perhaps the only thing the two characters have in common.
Despite some similarities, Bombsight and Jason are very different characters. Bombsight, having been active in the 1940s and 50s, isn’t young like Jason. More obviously, Bombsight is immortal and has superpowers, while Jason is a normal human.
Where Else You Know Mason Dye From
Besides his roles in The Boys and Stranger Things, Mason Dye is also known for a few other projects. He played Garrett, a villain in season 4 of Teen Wolf, and appeared as Damon in nine episodes of MTV’s teen drama Finding Carter, which premiered in 2014.
Dye also appeared as Tom in season 5 of Bosch, and his role in season 4 of Stranger Things likely helped him land parts in both season 5 of The Boys and the upcoming Vought Rising. This latter project will give Dye his first leading role, and based on his complex character in The Boys season 5, episode 6, it promises to be a strong and exciting step forward in his career.
