Where to find Rime Beetle – Monster Hunter Wilds

Locating the Rime Beetle from Monster Hunter Wilds is much like searching for a bug buried under a snowdrift – that’s essentially what you’re up against! Once you’ve managed to locate a Rime Beetle for Samin’s research mission, it’s worth returning for more. The materials these beetles gather in their tiny snowballs can be used to craft ammunition with an ice affinity.

In our Monster Hunter Wilds Rime Beetle tutorial, we show you the fastest locations to spot Rime Beetles and provide tips on effectively capturing them.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Rime Beetle locations

Rime Beetles inhabit cold regions, and the only suitable spot in Wilds is the Icy Peak Cliffs. Locate this place on your map. These beetles can be found in various areas here such as Areas 2, 11, 7, and 13. If you’re having difficulty locating them, feel free to activate the map filter to help the game highlight their locations. If you need a guide while moving around, mark the Rime Beetle as your destination on the map.

Every time I venture into Area 2, there are usually three beetles scurrying about, just a short distance away from my initial pop-up camp. However, I always remember to move on quickly, as lingering too long can attract a horde of Nerscylla hatchlings.

Whenever you spot a snowball rolling, it’s usually being followed by beetles, so you might catch sight of a moving snowball before you actually see the beetles themselves.

Monster Hunter Wilds: How to catch Rime Beetle

When you get close to Rime Beetles, a prompt entices you to engage with them, mimicking the act of gathering herbs. Performing this action will reward you with a spider web and Frostburst Ammo for your sling, but no beetle itself. To truly capture the beetle, similar to catching a Dapperwing or other unique species, you must first equip your capture net and then use it on the beetle.
