Where to find Gravid Bowfin – Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Gravid Bowfin is an uncommon fish that surfaces only at particular hours and in designated spots, and can be caught using specific lures. Typically, one could easily net any smaller fish using a capture net. However, for the Fishing for Flavor quest, you must use a fishing rod to catch the elusive Gravid Bowfin.

The guide on Monster Hunter Wilds Bowfin Fishing provides information about the best locations to find this elusive fish and suggests suitable bait options to catch it effectively.

Monster Hunter Wilds Gravid Bowfin location

The Pregnant Bowfin could potentially lay its eggs at multiple sites. From our observations, it tends to be most prevalent in the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest areas; however, it may also occasionally show up in other locations such as:

  • Area 14 of Oilwell Basin
  • Ruins of Wyveria’s Hidden Cave (southwest of Area 13)
  • Iceshard Cliffs’ Icy Shore (Area 1)

In the abundant period, you’ll notice the Pregnant Bowfin appearing. Once you’re on chapter four and have access to higher-rank quests, you can alter the season from your tent, but be prepared to spend several hundred Guild Points for this convenience.

Our greatest fortune arose from scouting the oasis in the Windward Plains’ Area 13, particularly around dawn. Every day we discovered at least one Pregnant Bowfin there, although they are tricky to see due to their camouflage. Keep an eye out for this fish species.

Typically, a capture net is useful for catching smaller fish species, including the Gravid Bowfin. However, during Kanya’s ‘Fishing for Flavor’ quest, she requires a Gravid Bowfin that was specifically caught using a fishing rod to fulfill her assignment.

How to catch Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds

To catch a Gravid Bowfin, you’ll want to follow these steps:

1. Prepare your fishing gear – Grab your fishing rod and get ready!
2. Choose a suitable body of water – Find a place where you think a Gravid Bowfin might be swimming.
3. Cast your line – Toss your lure into the water.
4. Lure the fish in – Make your lure wiggle to catch the attention of the Gravid Bowfin.
5. Reel it in when it bites – When you feel a strong pull, start reeling in your catch!
6. Remove any obstructions if needed – If other fish are getting in the way, you might need to gently move or release them so that you can successfully land the Gravid Bowfin.

Apart from the equipment you already have, you’ll also require the Emerald Jitterbait to attract the Gravid Bowfin. Kanya provides this during your initial fishing quest, which is titled “Seeking the Goldenfish,” following your acquisition of a rod. To switch your bait, first ensure that the fishing rod is equipped, then open the inventory panel similar to how you would swap ammunition for a ranged weapon.

Once you finish “Fishing for Flavor”, you will acquire Jeweled Mullet Roses, an ingredient used in cooking, allowing you to proceed further in Kanya’s quest series.
