Where To Find Fossilized Fire Opal And Genesis Opal In Monster Hunter Wilds

With Monster Hunter Wilds, exploration of the world became a much larger focus. Previous Monster Hunter games wanted you to spend time exploring these worlds as well, but Wilds goes a long way towards making these areas feel much more dynamic. Weather and time-of-day plays a big role in that, as well as the items you find.

Uncommon Fossilized Opals can be found in specific locations within the game, and their frequency and abundance are greatly influenced by the weather conditions. Some rarer types of these opals may even be scanty in certain areas. Here’s a guide on how to obtain some of these elusive fossilized opals.

Where To Get Fossilized Fire Opals And Genesis Opals

Fossilized Opals come in three forms, in rarities four, five, and six. These are regular Fossilized Opals, Fossilized Fire Opals, and the rarest of all, Genesis Opals. The first two come from Exquisite Fossil gathering points, which can be found in the Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, and Iceshard Cliffs.

These are single pick-up items, but they benefit greatly from the use of the Geologist skill. Fire Opals are quite rare even during the Plenty, so using this skill is essential to maximizing your gains. Despite Exquisitie Fossils appearing in most regions, Fire Opals can only be acquired in the Windward Plains and Oilwell Basin, so check these areas when farming for them.

Genesis Opals work a little differently. Like many Rarity Six items, it only appears under certain circumstances. You must wait for the Magnificent Fossil Emergence event to occur, in which a new gathering point, the Magnificent Fossil, appears. You can’t directly influence it’s appearance unfortunately, so resting until the event appears is your best chance here.

Many Fossilized Opals seem to have a higher chance of appearing during the Fallow, interestingly enough.

Although Exquisite Fossils do not occur naturally in Wyveria, it is possible to find Magnificent Fossils within the Ruins of Wyveria, just like in other regions where Exquisite Fossils are found.

Uses For Fossilized Fire Opals And Genesis Opals

After you’ve accumulated a few valuable opals (which could take quite some time), you’ll find that they are exclusively traded with Sild. In return, Sild offers a variety of unique items, such as Guardian Seikret Feathers, Great Hibiscus flowers, and even plate materials from certain Guardian beasts.

Though it likely goes without saying, the rarer the Opal, the better the item you can receive for it. If any items you want aren’t available for trade, then simply rest until the next in-game day for the stock to refresh. Many of the items Sild does offer for trade tend to be quite hard to acquire otherwise, such as their Speciality Sild Garlic.

As always, make sure to activate a Gathering Boost in advance of trading to boost the items you can acquire from any trades you perform.
