Fans of the show Yellowstone are eager for a crossover between Dutton Ranch and Marshals, and Cole Hauser has an idea of how it could happen. Dutton Ranch, an upcoming series executive produced by Taylor Sheridan and created by Chad Feehan, will debut on Paramount+ with the first two episodes on Friday, May 15th.
Following the events of Yellowstone, Dutton Ranch picks up the story of Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they build a life on a new ranch in South Texas. This is the second series connected to Yellowstone – the first was Marshals on CBS, which follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and his work as a U.S. Marshal in Montana.
Cole Hauser recently discussed the possibility of a crossover between Yellowstone and another series while at a press event held at the Dutton Ranch. In an interview with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant, Hauser shared where he’d like to see this crossover take place – either in Montana or Texas. Here’s what he had to say:
Fans are really hoping for a crossover between the shows ‘Yellowstone’ and ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves.’ Viewers of the ‘Yellowstone’ universe are eager to see the stories connect. The big question is: should the crossover take place in Montana, or should Kayce Dutton travel to Texas?
If I had the chance, I’d escape to the mountains of Montana and relax. It sounds like the perfect getaway.
It makes sense that Cole Hauser would rather film in Montana than have Luke Grimes’ character travel to the Rio Paloma ranch. Montana’s beautiful landscapes were a big part of what made Yellowstone so appealing, and Hauser filmed there for five seasons. Moving the show to South Texas was a significant change for both Hauser and his characters, Rip and Beth.
Kayce will continue his story in Montana, and the show Marshals often features beautiful views of Montana’s mountains, rivers, and forests. However, South Texas has a very different landscape without the large mountains that Beth, Rip, and their son, Carter, are used to on the Dutton Ranch.
The show Marshals recently mentioned the characters Rip and Beth, hinting that a crossover with Yellowstone could still happen. While Marshals is a standard police procedural and Dutton Ranch is a high-quality streaming series, both shows are produced by the same company, Paramount Skydance. This makes a Yellowstone crossover very likely, and fans could eventually see Rip, Beth, and Kayce together again.
CBS’s Marshals is a huge success, and has already been renewed for another season. Dutton Ranch is expected to be equally popular on Paramount+, and a second season for Beth and Rip’s storyline is likely. Eventually, these two Yellowstone spinoffs might even feature characters crossing over into each other’s shows.
Whether Dutton Ranch will acknowledge Kayce remains uncertain, but it’s likely they will at some point. Even if a Yellowstone crossover occurs, Kayce could still end up in Texas, despite Cole Hauser hoping for a return to Montana.
Beth and Rip could easily visit Montana before Kayce looks at their new house on the Dutton Ranch, or they could switch and Kayce could go first – it doesn’t really matter.
