As a longtime NCIS enthusiast, I must say that the upcoming series, NCIS: Origins, has me absolutely thrilled! The chance to delve into the early days of Gibbs’ career under the mentorship of Mike Franks is like finding a lost treasure for us fans.
In “NCIS: Origins,” we delve into the past, exploring the realm of “NCIS.” Here, a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs teams up with an earlier version of Mike Franks and his group. This has left fans curious about certain events involving Mike in the original show.
In the initial run of the show, Frank made his debut in Season 3. He appeared sporadically across various episodes up until Season 8. It became evident that Frank was instrumental in shaping the Gibbs character we’ve grown to admire. As a result, Frank swiftly gained popularity among fans, becoming a beloved secondary character.
Mike Franks created Gibbs in NCIS
It didn’t take us long to figure out that Mike Franks was instrumental in shaping Gibbs into the person he is. Franks provided Gibbs with the initial opportunity at NCIS, which served as a catalyst for Gibbs to envision the kind of leader he aspired to become. The rules we’re familiar with Gibbs adhering to were largely modeled after those established by Franks.
Instead, the Frank we encountered was a disheartened elderly man. After leaving NCIS in 1996, he chose to relocate to Mexico, living secluded. Yet, he occasionally visited Gibbs for assistance on unusual cases or to provide Gibbs with the necessary personal support.
There’s a good chance we might uncover the sequence of events leading up to Frank’s resignation from NCIS, considering that NCIS: Origins will take us back to the early ’90s.
What happened to Mike Franks in NCIS?
In the eighth season of NCIS, much like other series protagonists, Mike Franks met an unfortunate end. The serial killer, Jonas Cobb, inflicted fatal wounds on Franks, ultimately leading to his demise.
It turned out that Franks was also suffering from cancer. Going up against Jonas was a way for the character to go out on his own terms, although the death hit Gibbs hard.
During the gap between Seasons 8 and 13, we were fortunate enough to catch glimpses of Frank again. His spirit reappeared to aid Gibbs in later seasons, guiding him with crucial decisions following his demise. This portrayed the profound impact that Frank had on Gibbs.
