What happened to April in Accused season 2, episode 2?
As a binge-watcher of crime dramas who has seen more courtroom scenes than I care to admit, I must say that the latest episode of Accused was a gripping portrayal of a woman pushed to her breaking point. Taylor Schilling’s character, April, is not your typical murderer; she’s a mother struggling with the daily challenges of raising a special needs child and dealing with bullies.
In the teaser for Season 2, Episode 2 of Accused, it was explicitly shown that Taylor Schilling’s character, April, will find herself entangled in a heated incident on the road, culminating in a car accident.

As a dedicated viewer, I must admit that trailers often set lofty expectations, but they seldom deliver everything exactly as promised. This particular episode, however, took an unexpected turn, and it was quite refreshing. We witnessed a mother who had reached her breaking point in dealing with the unscrupulous individuals around her.
Justin Chambers’ character, Tyler, merely scratched the surface of his breaking point. There comes a time when those who bear too much burden suddenly crack under pressure. Is this an excuse? Definitely not. However, it suggests that this situation is less about premeditated murder and more about manslaughter.
What did April do in Accused season 2, episode 2?
April’s quick learning curve revealed her breaking point. Her special needs child is frequently bullied, adding to her exhaustion and stress. On top of that, there’s this man named Tyler who constantly criticizes and upsets her. Remarkably, we never see Tyler driving the car; instead, the focus remains on April throughout the episode.
In the end, April’s road rage leads to a fatal accident involving Tyler. This incident has led to her standing trial for the unfortunate event.
Is April found guilty in Accused?
At times, we ponder whether the jurors might show some empathy towards the defendant. However, in this instance, they did not, and a verdict of guilt was reached.
As a fan, I find it intriguing how the judge shows understanding towards her plight. Despite sentencing her to three years behind bars, which seems minimal given the gravity of the crime, it’s evident that this judge is taking into account the hardships this woman has endured and the special needs child she cares for at home. This compassionate approach adds a unique touch to the usual justice system proceedings.
The verdict brings a feeling of relaxation too, not just because it’s a light sentence. April now has the opportunity to discover herself and perhaps distance herself from the burdens that have been pressing her. Yes, it means spending three years behind bars, but it could also be a time for personal growth if used wisely.
