What are Cephelopods in Monster Hunter Wilds?

In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll encounter a fresh type of monster – the Cephalopods, which is a real-life animal classification for these creatures. These cephalopods are similar to octopuses, using their multiple limbs to ensnare and overpower their enemies, just like their actual counterparts in nature.

This Monster Hunter Wilds guide lists both Cephelopods and explains what to expect from them.

Monster Hunter Wilds Cephelopods

In the Wilds, it’s hard to overlook cephalopods since one of them serves as the top predator in the Oilwell Basin region. Another is an extra creature that’s worth tracking down for the robust dragon-resistant armor you can make from its various parts.

Nu Udra

Nu Udra, known as The Black Flame, is an oil-soaked octopus residing in the depths of Oilwell Basin. It has two forms – a non-lit form that uses its legs to knock you over, and a fiery form that’s much more hazardous. When lit, Nu Udra employs flamethrower attacks, shoots fireballs, and becomes significantly more challenging to deal with. To make it easier to defeat, use water-based weapons.

Xu Wu

In a different vein from Nu Udra, the monster Xu Wu resides in the depths of Wyveria’s Ruins, demonstrating a unique style of its own. Unlike Nu Udra, it doesn’t boast flashy attacks, but rather showcases swift movements and creative uses of its tentacles. What sets Xu Wu apart is an attack that can instantly defeat your hunter – by flipping onto its back and charging at you. To navigate this battle effectively, it’s essential to stay mobile, making fast and ranged weapons your ideal choices.

Xu Wu is weak to ice attacks.
