Vanessa Williams continued to display her weight loss on Monday, calling the drug Mounjaro ‘life-changing’.
The 62-year-old actress looked stunning in a silver, sequinned outfit as she began her performance for her residency at New York City’s 54 Below.
She paired a dazzling blazer with a black bodysuit and a matching pair of sparkly trousers.
Vanessa completed her stylish outfit with classic stiletto heels and wore her hair straight.
In her show, The Comfort Zone, she revisits and celebrates her career with a nostalgic musical journey at a famous venue.
Vanessa has shared that she’s been getting weight-loss injections for the past two years, hoping to feel and look her best as she approaches her 60th birthday.
The celebrity revealed in an interview with Hello! magazine that she’s been using the drug tirzepatide.
Tirzepatide is the GLP-1 medication known as Mounjaro in the UK.
She described it as a turning point. Reaching sixty made her realize she wanted to live a long, healthy life and feel good about how she looked, so she started thinking about how to make that happen.
Last month, Vanessa shared that she kept the trauma of being molested at age 10 secret for many years. She explained she did this because she worried her father would struggle to handle the information.
The actress first shared details of the sexual abuse she experienced in her 2012 memoir, You Have No Idea, which she wrote with her mother, Helen Williams. This was six years after the death of her father, Milton Williams Jr.
She recounted a disturbing experience from a California vacation when she was eleven years old. She stated that an 18-year-old girl performed a sexual act on her while they were traveling with family friends.
Vanessa was thinking about telling her parents what had happened, but she first learned that her uncle had passed away. This news was especially hard on her father.
Not wanting to add to her family’s suffering, the actress from Desperate Housewives kept what happened to her a secret for years, feeling she couldn’t share it with anyone.
She told Jamie Laing on his Great Company podcast that many people from that time went through similar experiences with abuse and kept it secret for years.
Vanessa thought back to the past, acknowledging that while things were different then, it doesn’t excuse what happened. It’s upsetting to realize so many people went through similar experiences, and it was truly devastating.
As a parent, it was something I didn’t discuss until after my father died. When my mother and I later co-wrote a book, she explained that my father wouldn’t have been able to cope with the news. That’s because fathers naturally want to protect their children.
She continued, recalling the event: ‘It happened while I was getting off the plane in California. I was traveling with a friend and their family’s acquaintances.’
I returned home to find out my uncle had passed away. I remember seeing my dad looking incredibly pale, and I immediately knew something was wrong. They told us his brother, my uncle, had died.
I didn’t have a chance to process what happened or even mention I was upset. It just suddenly became real, and I immediately decided not to talk about it. I basically pushed it all down and tried to ignore it.
It’s generally best to avoid telling your parents about unusual things, unless you have a very close relationship with them. It can be difficult to have those kinds of conversations.
