Upcoming Avengers Movie Will See Deadly MCU Villain Return — Report

Exciting news for Marvel fans! A recent update suggests a classic villain might appear in the next Avengers movie. The highly anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to come out this December 18th. Following that, Avengers: Secret Wars is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.

What MCU villain is potentially returning in an upcoming Avengers movie?

Rumors suggest Josh Brolin will reprise his role as Thanos in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. While it’s not confirmed how significant his part will be, it could range from a major role to a brief appearance. Thanos was last seen being defeated by the Avengers in the 2019 film, Avengers: Endgame, in a battle that cost Iron Man his life. We’ve also seen alternate versions of the character in the Disney+ animated series, What If…? and Marvel Zombies.

An earlier report indicated that Marvel Studios aimed to begin filming Avengers: Secret Wars around April 2026, initially using the code name ‘Apple Pie 2’. Similar to the production timeline for another film, ‘Doomsday’, the shoot could continue until September 2026.

Currently, the confirmed cast for Secret Wars includes Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, all from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Robert Downey Jr., an Academy Award winner, is also expected to play Victor von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom. Tom Holland is reportedly set to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man as one of the film’s leads. Additionally, Sadie Sink, who co-starred with Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is rumored to be joining the cast, and many fans believe she may portray Jean Grey.
