Unlock & Upgrade Awesome Armor in Monster Hunter Wilds!
As a dedicated Monster Hunter Wilds enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a thrill when I acquire a new armor set. However, the true challenge lies in continuously enhancing the armor I’ve forged myself, making it stronger and more formidable through the process of armor upgrades in this incredible game.
In Monster Hunter World (MHW), there’s an abundance of stylish outfits that catch the eye. Personally, I find it thrilling to anticipate which unique armor a slain boss will yield. Some might say this guessing game is nearly as enjoyable as the actual combat, but given my passion for video game fashion, my perspective may be biased.
In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through the process of enhancing your armor using Armor Orbs, as well as how to access them and gather additional ones.
How to upgrade armor
You can upgrade armor pieces and sets you’ve already forged in the Smithy.
1 of 5
To do so, follow these steps:
- Speak with Gemma at any base camp.
- Select the option Forge/Upgrade armor.
- Select the armor piece you’ve already forged and want to upgrade – it should have a tick over the icon.
- Select the Upgrade option from the drop-down list.
- Add Armor Spheres until the gauge on the lower-center fills up to the max.
- Select Upgrade to commit to the changes.
When do you unlock Armor Spheres
After overcoming either the Black Flame or Nu Udra, you’ll begin acquiring Armor Spheres. Upon completing this mission, approach Roqul, who oversees the Smelting Foundry at the Base Camp close to the Azuz Everforge, to gain insights about smelting.
This is about 10-15 hours into the game, so you’ll have to grind a bit to get there.
How to get Armor Spheres
As a gamer, I’ve got two options: I can melt those Armor Spheres at the Smelting Foundry within Azuz Everforge, or I can gather them by taking down monsters, kicking things off with Ulth Duna.
Smelting Foundry
In this location, you can trade Monster Parts to create Armor Spheres. The rarity of the Armor Sphere corresponds with the rarity of the monster from which the parts were obtained. Rarer monster parts yield a higher number of points for creating Armor Spheres.

Monster drops
To find out what loot a monster might drop, you can either start or participate in a quest and then navigate to the rewards section using key ‘E’ or ‘R1/RB’.
As a devoted player, I was thrilled when I finally accomplished the quest known as “Sultan of the Sand” (Rey Dau), and it paid off handsomely! The reward I received was a coveted Armor Sphere, tinted in the rare shade of blue.
