Unlock the Ultimate Avowed Strategy: Master Kai, Marius, Giatta, & Yatzli’s Abilities!
In the game called Avowed, each character has four distinct skills that can be enhanced as you progress through the story. Unlike your own character, these companions don’t increase in level with yours; instead, they receive a single skill point every few levels they gain. I managed to complete Avowed at level 28, only two levels away from the maximum level 30. With eight upgrade points for each companion, I had enough to make some improvements, but not enough to max out all their abilities since each ability has four levels of enhancement.
In the game Avowed, the method of crafting your companion is strictly linked to their four skills, as you cannot alter their gear. On one hand, this simplifies managing companions, but on the other, it underscores the significance of your ability choices since there’s no flexibility with their equipment. Fortunately, you can reassign abilities (respec) whenever you wish, for a modest amount of in-game currency, if you find yourself unsatisfied with your companion’s build.
Best Kai Build (Abilities & Upgrades)
Kai Is The Best Tank Out Of Avowed’s Companions
As a gamer, I embarked on my inaugural Avowed journey with a Ranger character, meaning Kai was always by my side. Given my preference for a tankier companion, I found myself focusing on making him more resilient to damage, allowing me to maintain a safe distance and pick off enemies. The Second Wind skill turned out to be indispensable in this regard, as it ensured that Kai remained an active participant in the fray longer. The Refreshing Wind upgrade was particularly beneficial because upon his return, he could also instantly activate some of his additional abilities, further enhancing our teamwork.
Kai Upgrades (In Order) | Effect |
---|---|
Second Wind | Kai revives himself to 50% health after dying. |
Unbending Defense | Increases Damage Reduction by 25%. |
Leap of Daring | Area of effect attack that Stuns and Taunts enemies. |
Quick Reload | Reduces Cooldown of Fire and Ice by 50%. |
Refreshing Wind | Reset ability cooldowns after Second Wind is activated. |
Iron Will | Increases Damage Reduction from Unbending Defense to 50%. |
Leap of Faith | Gain some temporary hit points by damaging enemies with Leap of Daring. |
Pure Lead | Increases Stun dealt by Fire and Ice. |
In addition to selecting abilities that would ensure Kai’s survival (such as Second Wind and Unbending Defense), I frequently employed Fire and Ice in combat. The substantial Stun damage it inflicted played a significant role, given that I was using an arquebus, making stun damage a crucial aspect of my battle plan. Moreover, it served as a useful tool for maneuvering Kai. Upon activation of Fire and Ice, Kai would move next to the targeted enemy, often drawing their attention away from me when attacked. This tactic was beneficial in managing crowds while my Tanglefoot was on cool-down.
The “Daring Jump” could perform much the same function in terms of repositioning Kai, but it requires more time for him to travel from one spot to another. This makes it less efficient compared to Fire and Ice, but it remains useful in certain situations. I find the “Faithful Leap” upgrade beneficial as it provides additional health for Kai, particularly following a Second Wind respawn.
Best Marius Build (Abilities & Upgrades)
Marius Is Helpful For Crowd Control And Damaging Multiple Enemies
As a gamer, I’m all about having Marius by my side when it comes to ranged combat. His Binding Roots ability works like a Tanglefoot for Rangers, and it’s a lifesaver against formidable foes who could easily take down a delicate Wizard or Ranger in no time. The Grasping Roots upgrade takes it up a notch, allowing me to restrain multiple enemies at once, giving me some much-needed space from the heat of battle.
Marius Upgrades (In Order) | Effect |
---|---|
Wounding Shots | Marius’ attacks deal Bleed Accumulation. |
Shadow Step | Marius Vanishes and reappears across the battlefield, damaging multiple enemies. |
Heart Seeker | Fires a piercing shot that always hits. |
Impeding Shots | Wounding Shots now slow enemies too. |
Grasping Roots | Binding Roots traps multiple enemies. |
Exposing Shots | Wounding Shots reduce enemy Damage Reduction. |
Constricting Roots | Binding Roots deals Stun. |
Assassinate | Instantly kills most Stunned enemies. |
Incorporating Wounding Shots passive enhancements significantly enhances a Marius build, particularly when Shadow Step is involved, as it enables multiple attacks in quick succession. Since I was concentrating on causing Stun, the Assassinate upgrade for Shadow Step was beneficial in quickly eliminating enemies, but it might not be as effective if you’re not dealing much stun damage. Instead, consider swapping it with Maiming Shots upgrade if you are using melee attacks.
Best Giatta Build (Abilities & Upgrades)
Giatta Is A Support Companion Who Can Heal And Speed Up Cooldowns
If you’re aiming for the optimal Giatta setup, focusing on her supportive skills is highly recommended. Initially, I found myself underutilizing Giatta as I had accumulated a substantial amount of healing items before she joined my party. Nevertheless, I discovered that her Acceleration skill was quite beneficial. Boosts to movement and attack speed facilitate evading enemies more effectively, while the reduced cooldown on abilities allowed me to maintain a steady flow of attacks and crowd control.
Giatta Upgrades (In Order) | Effect |
---|---|
Acceleration | Increases all allies’ Move Speed and Attack Speed for 15 seconds. |
Reconstruction | Giatta’s attacks heal all allies. |
Barrier | All allies get Temporary Health for 20 seconds |
Boosted Essence | Purification heals allies by 50% of their maximum Health. |
Time Shift | Any abilities activated while Acceleration is active have cooldowns reduced by 50%. |
Extended Acceleration | Acceleration lasts 10 more seconds. |
Essence Shielding | Purification now increases all allies’ Damage Reduction by 20% for 15 seconds. |
Critical Restore | Reconstruction heals allies below 20% health more. |
As a gamer, I’ve found that Acceleration is versatile and works well regardless of the class I’m playing. However, Giatta seems to be an ideal companion for melee fighters like myself. Her Purification ability is particularly useful in maintaining my presence in a fight, even when taking heavy damage. In my initial playthrough, I didn’t invest much in Barrier, but I plan to allocate more points into it when playing as a melee fighter, especially to unlock the Medic Shielding upgrade.
Best Yatzli Build (Abilities & Upgrades)
Yatzli Has Solid Offensive Skills And A Good Source Of Crowd Control
When Yatzli joined my crew, I made the decision to replace Marius with her, as I appreciated her offensive prowess more. I discovered both Minoletta’s Missile Battery and Essence Explosion to be incredibly beneficial for taking out groups of enemies simultaneously. Given my strategy of dealing massive damage in a single shot using an arquebus, these abilities proved crucial in finishing off enemies that were nearly defeated or reducing the health of others to the point where I could eliminate them with a single strike.
Yatzli Upgrades (In Order) | Effect |
---|---|
Blast | Yatzli’s attacks all do area of effect damage. |
Arduous Delay of Motion | Slows an enemy for 10 seconds. |
Minoletta’s Missile Battery | Creates arcane missiles that hit nearby enemies. |
Exhausting Field | Arduous Delay of Motion affects all enemies in an area. |
Force Blast | Enemies hit by Blasts get increased Stun damage. |
Scrappy Casting | Reduce cooldown of Essence Explosion by 33% |
Energy Sap | Increases slow effect of Arduous Delay of Motion. |
Horizon Strike | Increases maximum range of Minoletta’s Missile Battery. |
Yatzli’s top ability is Delaying Motion with Difficulty. In my role as a Ranger, this skill greatly enhances my capability to maneuver around enemies tactically, allowing me to take more precise shots at their vulnerable spots. For melee combatants, this skill also provides an advantage, enabling them to strike enemies that are temporarily slowed down and then retreat swiftly before the enemy retaliates.
Each of Avowed‘s companions boasts unique traits that make them ideal fits for specific character types. These configurations aided me significantly during the game as a Ranger (and could also be effective for a Wizard), but I found that a Fighter might excel more with Giatta than I did. Keep in mind, if these builds don’t align with your preferred playstyle, you can effortlessly respec to a setup that better suits you.
