Chappell Roan’s outfit at the Grammy Awards caused a stir on Sunday, drawing comparisons to Bianca Censori’s daring look, but it was revealed that her visible piercings weren’t actually on her nipples – they were a clever illusion.
Okay, so I’ve been following this artist for ages, and she’s just amazing. She’s turning 28 soon, and for her latest look – a stunning burgundy Mugler gown – she went all out! She actually worked with a special effects artist, Sasha Glasser, to create custom prosthetic pasties that were strong enough to support all the gorgeous draping on the dress. It was a total showstopper, and the attention to detail was incredible!
The beauty look featured prosthetic nipples from the brand Out Of Kit, which sells high-quality, self-adhesive silicone nipples for $89.99 online.
‘The idea was for her to not be so naked,’ Glasser explained to Allure on Tuesday.
This prosthetic is different from others because it has a built-in adhesive backing, similar to a Band-Aid, eliminating the need for separate glue.
As a huge fan of their work, I know Glasser and her amazing team – Malina Stearns and Chelsea Delfino included – really went the extra mile to make these nip rings super secure. They used a really strong, medical-grade glue called Telesis, and added a little bit of power mesh just to be absolutely sure nothing would rip or come loose. It’s that level of detail that makes their creations so impressive!
I took a small, dime-sized piece and attached it to the back of the prosthetic ear. Then, we pushed the earring through both the prosthetic and the underlying mesh fabric.
Roan’s bold look, featuring temporary tattoos, was the idea of her stylist, Genesis Webb, who accompanied her on the red carpet at LA’s Crypto.com Arena.
Honestly, I was a little surprised by all the fuss! Seeing some chatter about my outfit, I just don’t think it’s that over the top. It’s funny to me, considering so many of you are following along with my style – I have over 16 million followers on social media, and I always try to keep it real!
This style is surprisingly cool and unique. I suggest doing whatever you want – it’s a lot of fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Two years ago, a special prosthetic pig nose was made for Roan (born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) by Glasser. She wore it to a Universal after-party because she hadn’t been invited to the Grammy Awards themselves.
The singer, originally from Missouri, is well-known for her bold, drag-influenced style, and she’s enjoying how special effects makeup is allowing her to create even more dramatic and over-the-top looks.
Roan will be headlining the Laneway Festival, a six-show event that begins this Thursday in Auckland, New Zealand.
The singer, known for her red hair and lesbian identity, is nominated for Pop Song of the Year at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards for her song ‘Pink Pony Club.’ The awards show will be broadcast on Fox on March 26th.
Roan is up against strong competition in the gender-neutral category, including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, and the group Huntrix (featuring Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami).
The singer behind “The Giver,” who gets around 34.6 million listeners on Spotify each month, has sold more than 25 million albums and songs in the US, as certified by the RIAA, since starting her career on YouTube in 2014.
Do wild red carpet looks distract from the awards themselves?
