The opening of the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Scotland – a monument, no doubt, to…well, to something. It is to host the inaugural Nexo Championship in the year of our Lord 2025. A tournament, mind you, sponsored by those pioneers of the digital frontier: Nexo. A collision of worlds, wouldn’t you say? 🧐 Like attempting to teach a bear to waltz.
Present, of course, were the co-founders, Antoni Trenchev and Kosta Kantchev – men who, one suspects, have gazed into the abyss of blockchain and found…opportunity. They broke bread with the former president, a man not unfamiliar with grand gestures and the careful cultivation of appearances. Discussions, we are told, revolved around “the future of sports” and the “growing influence of digital finance.” One wonders if the conversation strayed to the topic of audits. Or exit strategies. 😇
The Nexo Championship, another brick in their strategy to insinuate themselves into the respectable world of proper sports (as if golf weren’t respectable enough already). Six other events on the DP World Tour now bear their mark. Scotland, naturally, anticipates a boon to its already substantial golf tourism – to the tune of $400 million annually. A sum, one imagines, that can buy a great deal of…security. One recalls, as if in a dream, Nexo’s re-entry into the U.S. market, heralded by an appearance from the younger Trump. A familial dynasty. So predictable. 🙄
