Trailer: Robert Pattinson is ‘To Catch a Predator’ host Chris Hansen in A24 ‘Primetime’ thriller

A new trailer reveals that the upcoming series “Primetime” will offer a dramatic and suspenseful take on the popular NBC show “To Catch a Predator.”

Okay, I just saw the first teaser for this new A24 thriller and it’s WILD. Robert Pattinson is playing Chris Hansen – yes, the Chris Hansen from ‘Dateline’ and ‘To Catch a Predator’! They’ve really captured the vibe, and Pattinson’s voice is almost completely different. They even included some of Hansen’s classic lines, like “What would have happened if I wasn’t here?” and “You see how this looks, right?” It’s seriously creepy and I’m already hooked!

‘Predators’ examines the tactics of a reality TV phenomenon that may have gone too far

The NBC show ‘To Catch a Predator,’ hosted by Chris Hansen, was widely praised for exposing and stopping people who preyed on children. However, a new documentary is raising some important questions about the program and its methods.

The show, which aired on NBC from 2004 to 2007, perfectly captured the early 2000s fascination with true crime and sensationalism. Each episode typically involved a carefully planned sting operation. Investigators, along with the show’s producers and the group Perverted Justice, would use undercover operatives posing as minors to attract men suspected of seeking to exploit children.

Hansen would typically arrive with a flourish and question the suspects, who usually became flustered and struggled to answer. Often, police officers were waiting nearby to arrest them, sometimes even physically apprehending them while cameras recorded the scene.

The television show was canceled following the suicide of Louis William Conradt Jr., a Texas prosecutor. He had been caught communicating and sharing photos with someone he believed was a 13-year-old boy, who was actually an undercover operative. When Conradt didn’t appear at the designated location, NBC and the police went to his house with a search warrant. He died by suicide before they could enter.

The story was told on a February 2007 episode of the TV show “To Catch a Predator,” which aired as part of “Dateline.”

Chris Hansen, the former host of ‘To Catch a Predator,’ now has an arrest warrant out for him because he didn’t show up for a court date related to a sex-trafficking case.

The documentary “Predators,” released last year, delved into the methods of the investigative show “To Catch a Predator.” It looked at the show’s original goals, its real-world impact, and why it captivated viewers – including the documentary’s director, David Osit – so completely.

The new film “Primetime,” featuring a debut performance by Phoebe Bridgers, will be released in theaters this fall. You can watch a short preview below.
