Early reactions to Steven Spielberg’s new thriller, Disclosure Day, are incredibly positive. Critics are already praising the film, particularly Spielberg’s direction and a standout performance by Emily Blunt. Full reviews will be released closer to the movie’s premiere.
The new sci-fi movie, starring Josh O’Connor and Colman Domingo, centers around a government cover-up. It follows two people who risk everything to expose the truth: that aliens are real.
Germain Lussier from Gizmodo shared on X that the movie is Steven Spielberg’s best work in two decades. He called it a thrilling blend of chase sequences, romance, and mystery, all set within a fantastic sci-fi world, and praised Emily Blunt’s performance as one of the greatest ever.

Steven Weintraub from Collider recommends going into screenings of the new film with as little prior knowledge as possible. He calls it another fantastic success for Steven Spielberg and suggests avoiding trailers to maximize the experience.
Let me just say this: Emily Blunt is phenomenal. While big summer blockbusters don’t often receive awards consideration, I think people will be amazed by her performance in this one…

According to Bill Bria of SlashFilm, Disclosure Day is Spielberg’s strangest – and most impressive – film. He praises the stunning visuals, the clever script by David Koepp (which he compares to The X-Files meets biblical storytelling), Emily Blunt’s standout performance, and John Williams’ best score in recent years, calling the movie both captivating and emotionally powerful.
Drew Taylor of The Wrap was equally enthusiastic, calling the film “thrilling, funny, deeply emotional, and impeccably acted,” especially praising Emily Blunt’s performance. He said he hadn’t loved a Spielberg movie this much in a long time, and highlighted its mystery and wonder, concluding that “nobody does it quite like Spielberg.”

David Koepp, known for writing blockbusters like Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, also wrote the screenplay for Disclosure Day.
Emily Blunt stars as Margaret Fairchild, a meteorologist who used to be a journalist, and Jack O’Connor plays Daniel Kellner, a cybersecurity specialist. The film also features Domingo as Hugo Wakefield, an advocate for revealing information, Colin Firth as the villain Noah Scanlon, and Eve Hewson as Jane, a former nun and Daniel’s partner.
Disclosure Day is released in UK cinemas on 10 June.
