Tom Holland‘s next Spider-Man movie, currently known as Brand New Day, has finally revealed its central idea. While the intense secrecy originally led fans to expect connections to the multiverse or surprise appearances like in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel Studios has remained tight-lipped about the new film. Even with the first trailer released, it’s still unclear what Spider-Man 4 will be about, or how the many villains featured in Brand New Day will fit into the story.
Tom Holland recently spoke with the Empire State Building’s YouTube channel after revealing the trailer for his new movie from the top of the famous landmark. He explained that Spider-Man: Brand New Day feels like a completely fresh start for the character, as Marvel Studios potentially begins a new three-movie story arc with Spider-Man.
The movie feels like a brand new beginning. What Peter Parker is experiencing after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is deeply impactful and unlike anything we’ve typically seen in superhero stories.
The popular MCU actor explained that the main idea behind Brand New Day is about young people discovering who they are and growing up.
This film explores the journey of young people discovering who they are and growing up. Having gone through that myself, I was able to really understand Peter Parker and bring that experience to his character as he starts this new phase of his life.
The new series, Brand New Day, focuses on young characters discovering who they are, which is a big change from the earlier Spider-Man movies. Those films usually explored what it means to be a hero in various ways.
In Homecoming, the movie delved into the idea of what makes a true hero, with Spider-Man learning from the guidance of Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.). Iron Man perfectly captured the film’s central message when he told Peter Parker, “If you’re nothing without that suit, then you shouldn’t have it.” This pushed Peter to confront the villain Vulture without relying on his advanced Stark technology suit.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame and Tony Stark’s death, Far From Home explored the pressure Peter Parker felt to live up to expectations. The movie showed Peter stepping out of Tony Stark’s shadow and becoming his own hero – Spider-Man – while still dealing with the everyday challenges of being a teenager.
In No Way Home, Peter Parker makes huge sacrifices to protect the Multiverse. The film powerfully connects to the legacy of Uncle Ben when Aunt May, in her final moments, delivers the famous line, “With great power comes great responsibility.” This moment truly defines the core message of the entire Home trilogy.
In an interview, Tom Holland described Peter Parker’s actions in Brand New Day as a huge sacrifice. Peter is protecting Ned and M.J. by letting them forget him, and this selflessness is severely impacting his life, even his health.
What I love most about Peter Parker is his selflessness. In this film, he’s willing to sacrifice everything to protect his friends Ned and M.J., and it has devastating consequences for both his personal life and his well-being. I think this is a level of hardship we haven’t seen explored in previous Spider-Man movies.
I’m really excited for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, coming out July 31st! It’s going to be great to see Tom Holland back as Peter Parker, and it looks like we’ll be seeing more of his friends – Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya as M.J. – as they all navigate growing up. Plus, there’s a new character, Sadie Sink, who might just be playing Jean Grey, and that’s a really intriguing addition!
Here’s What Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Really All About

Rumors suggest Peter Parker is barely recognizable by the time of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has been intensely focused on fighting crime for the past four years. This dedication to superhero work has seemingly affected him, potentially leading to a physical change and his transformation into Man-Spider in Brand New Day.
I’m really excited about the new direction they seem to be taking with Spider-Man! At first, it sounded like the focus would be purely on the superhero side of things, but now it looks like we’re going to see Peter Parker really struggle with who he is. It seems these changes he’s going through – the mutations and health issues – are going to force him to figure out how to balance being Spider-Man and just being Peter, and it’s a matter of survival for him. It’s a fascinating setup, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out!
Given Sadie Sink’s performance in Stranger Things, it’s easy to envision her portraying a character like Jean Grey – someone grappling with both discovering who they are and controlling powerful abilities. This internal conflict could be what drives her character to seek help from Charles Xavier in the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Getting Peter back to a normal life could mean finally telling Zendaya’s M.J. and Jacob Batalon’s Ned about their shared past, which would repair his relationships with his friends. However, things are complicated because M.J. now has a new boyfriend in the recent comic run, Brand New Day.
Peter Parker is officially growing up, marking an exciting new phase for Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This opens up possibilities for future stories, including Spider-Man 5 and beyond. We might soon see Peter take on a mentor role, guiding someone else – and with Miles Morales potentially joining the MCU, that opportunity could arrive in the near future.
