Tom Holland Confirms Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Still Shooting 3 Months Away From Release

It’s been a while since Tom Holland last appeared as Spider-Man in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home. After a five-year wait, Marvel Studios and Sony are working hard to make the next movie worth the hype. Holland has shared that filming is still underway, although he feels they don’t necessarily need the extra time.

Tom Holland recently told GQ that he’s back in London filming extra scenes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He described the experience as “really, really fun,” even though it wasn’t strictly required. According to Holland, the existing film is already complete and works well; these additional scenes are simply meant to enhance it further.

According to Holland, the upcoming reshoots for Brand New Day will add more humor and introduce a villain storyline. The Spider-Man actor hinted that they’re working on making the film even more fun and engaging with these changes.

A Brand New Day Begins for Spider-Man in the MCU

The next Spider-Man story, Brand New Day, will be set four years after the events of No Way Home. According to a summary of the plot, Peter Parker has disappeared, but Spider-Man is successfully protecting New York City. However, a strange series of crimes soon draws the masked hero into a much bigger and more complex mystery than he’s ever encountered.

Tom Holland is set to reprise his role as Spider-Man (Peter Parker) in the upcoming film, marking his seventh appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll be joined by returning cast members Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk (Bruce Banner), and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher (Frank Castle).

Filming for the new movie, Brand New Day, took place from August to December 2025. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the superhero sequel, taking over from Jon Watts, who directed the previous three Spider-Man films. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the script again.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
