If you’ve been missing Tom Hiddleston since The Night Manager finished, Channel 4 has a great movie for you tonight – and it’s easily one of his most visually striking roles yet.
Released in 2016, High-Rise is a film based on J.G. Ballard’s novel. It stars Tom Hiddleston as Dr. Robert Laing, who moves into a high-end apartment building in 1975. While Laing is seeking a private life, he quickly discovers his neighbors have other plans.
As Laing tries to adjust to life in his new house, his polite behavior and mental state begin to fall apart, mirroring the building’s decay. However, the other residents seem oblivious, continuing to party constantly.

The movie High-Rise isn’t for everyone – one review from Digital Spy even pointed out a rather shocking opening scene involving a character eating something like a chicken wing, but not from KFC! – however, if you’re curious, you can now watch High-Rise for free on Channel 4’s streaming service.
You’ll need to act fast, though – High-Rise is only streaming for the next six days.

Ben Wheatley directed High-Rise, with a screenplay by Amy Jump. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Keeley Hawes, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, James Purefoy, and Reece Shearsmith.
When High-Rise came out in 2016, reviews were mixed – it currently has a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, here at Digital Spy, we were big fans. We said director Ben Wheatley did a fantastic job adapting JG Ballard’s novel, and that the film was nearly a perfect representation of his work.
According to the Globe and Mail, High-Rise seamlessly blends genres, ultimately becoming a uniquely terrifying and incredibly engaging film. The Independent praised it as a boldly ambitious and sharply critical work of visionary filmmaking that successfully addresses a wide range of themes.

Even though The Night Manager just finished airing, Tom Hiddleston has revealed that the character Jonathan Pine will return for a third season. The plan all along was to tell the complete story over twelve episodes, split across two and three seasons.
Fans will also see him return to theaters this December, reprising his role as Loki in the highly anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday.
High-Rise is available to watch now on Channel 4’s streaming service.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
