The crime drama Capone, starring Tom Hardy, is back on Netflix. The film, directed and written by Josh Trank, was taken off the platform in February but returned on Thursday, April 23rd.
The movie focuses on Al Capone (played by Hardy), the notorious gangster who controlled Chicago during the 1920s and 30s. It tells the story of what happened after he was released from prison, when he was already suffering from a serious illness caused by syphilis.
The crime drama boasts a strong cast alongside Tom Hardy, including Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Al Sapienza, Katherine Narducci, and Kyle MacLachlan. Jack Lowden plays FBI agent Stirling H. Crawford.

When Capone came out in 2020, it received mixed reviews from critics. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes shows an approval rating of 40% based on 140 reviews. Viewers weren’t as impressed, giving the film a score of only 24%.
While Tom Hardy delivers a compelling performance, the movie Capone doesn’t quite live up to its potential. Critics agree the film feels disjointed and doesn’t fully showcase Hardy’s talent, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, who called it “unconventional.”

TIME Magazine described the film as strangely captivating, though sometimes confusing and chaotic, mirroring the experience of its constantly flustered main character. However, they emphasized that Hardy’s performance is consistently compelling.
According to Slant Magazine, the film Capone feels disjointed, like each scene restarts the story. However, The Guardian praised it as impressively bold and self-assured.

Netflix has a new survival thriller called Apex, featuring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. Theron plays a passionate rock climber who finds herself hunted by a cruel hunter while in the wilderness.
