Tom Hanks’s nepo baby son Chet goes from begging to be ‘freed’ in Colombia to rubbing elbows at major Oscars party with mom Rita Wilson

Just weeks after sharing about problems with his passport and travel delays online, Chet Hanks was seen enjoying a pre-Oscars party.

Colin Hanks, the 35-year-old son of actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, joined his mother at a pre-Oscars party hosted by CAA in Los Angeles on Friday night.

The party, held at the exclusive club Living Room, also drew famous actors like Anya Taylor-Joy.

Chet walked behind Wilson, who was 69, leaving the party with a calm, unreadable expression.

The mother and son wore matching black outfits, but Wilson added some sparkle with silver accessories.

Meg Ryan, known for her role in Sleepless in Seattle, looked stunning in an outfit featuring a silk blouse, a short blazer, and a fitted pencil skirt adorned with sequins.

For the event, Chet looked handsome in a monochromatic suit and dress shirt sans tie.

The actor looked noticeably different, sporting a new haircut and a trimmed beard. This was a change from two weeks prior, when he posted on social media asking to be released from Colombia.

In a February Instagram post, Chet explained he was unexpectedly stranded while trying to come back to the US because he’d forgotten his American passport.

Despite acknowledging things could be worse, he remained in Colombia and only came back to the United States last week.

Chet first went to Puerto Rico for a friend’s birthday, and then he made a side trip to Medellin to see another friend.

Okay, so he said it himself – wasn’t that a perfect setup?! And then he launched into this amazing story about how his whole trip went totally sideways, but in the best way possible, obviously. I was on the edge of my seat, I swear!

I overheard him explaining why he was traveling with his Greek passport – he’s a dual citizen, you see. He mentioned he’d left his U.S. passport at home because it was about to expire, and he didn’t want to risk any issues with that.

He explained that sometimes, even with a visa that’s still technically valid, you might be denied entry into a country, especially if it’s nearing its expiration date.

When it came time for him to return home, he recalled he was stopped at the airport.

He kept his fans informed about what was happening and later shared a post praising Colombia as a beloved destination.

He announced on Instagram on March 8th that he had returned to the U.S. and flown to Miami, but he didn’t explain right away how he was able to travel given the issues with his passport.

He playfully wrote in his post that leaving Colombia felt like a setback, while being unable to leave felt like a win, and promised to be back soon.

He’s back in Los Angeles with his famous parents and will also be in the second season of the Netflix comedy, Running Point, next month.
